Hi I was wondering if any of you know of a way to glue leather on a laptop for the looks. Is there any glue product I should avoid to not dmg the plastic of the cover?

if you're going to be glueing something to your notebook, i think damaging the plastic of the cover is the least of your worries

Some type of glue will melt plastic but I am not sure what type....

That would be tricky to pull off I think. I think you need to figure out which glue is OK for both the plastic of your laptop AND the leather. And the glue has to have a lot of adhesiveness to make sure the leather doesn't start to peel off the lid. I'd worry about longevity of the bond.
It would sure look pretty cool though if done right.
Asus is coming out with a leather-bound notebook--in case you haven't seen it or heard about it. -
would you only be covering it externally, or would you also be doing around the screen & keyboard and on the palm rest also? If so you may have some issues closing it with that thickleather in the way.

I will start by the outside. Then probably do something with cabon and leather for the inside.

I've built a few systems now using leather and a special adhesive (same stuff leica uses on their cameras) we've done all sorts of leather we do it below the keyboard around touchpad and palmrests and also on lid for those who want that also. Best one we did was a system painted to match a customers car with matching leather. We've even put wood veneer above keyboard. I'll try and get some pics.
