Two ideas, both do-able, but crazy nonetheless
Firstly, and EL panel custom logo on the back of the LCD cover. What would be implied there? Could I use acetate to cover the hole made and then put a small EL panel in there? Or acrylic? Has it been done before? Can anyone provide advice?
Secondly, I bought a bottom cover for my laptop, which was luckily floating around on eBay. I wanted to cut holes into it and add more fans, but my friend advised me to take a Plaster of Paris mold, and pour aluminium into it, and them add fans with extrusions of aluminium to make contact with all the necessary components. Crazy, workable? (Yes I know a place that I can do this at)
Thanks.

wow that sounds like complexity to solve a simple problem where simple things will probably do more. Adding holes to reduce restriction/improve airflow in my old lappy cut 10C off load temp. Dedusting the heatsinks on my current lappy dropped gpu load temps by over 20C.
2nd backplate is a great idea. If the mod doesnt do enough... and cooling means that much to you... put orig back on, sell it, buy a lappy with a proper cooling solution. (Always cheaper to start with a big v8 and tune it than try to upgrade a tiny 4cyl econobox with a huge turbo and ungodly boost to reach the same goal...)
the metal where it touches hot bits will need good machining and TIM to conduct heat or its all wasted... plaster of paris? erm, no. it will look like @$$ and work worse than it looks
acetate = solvent (nail polish remover) I think you mean something else there -
For the first mod, you mean cutting a hole in the laptop lid? Yes, it's been done before - you need a steady hand and the right tools, as well as a simple logo preferably
. You could make the acrylic part using Shapeways if you're in the US and have some CAD experience or can find someone to design it - 3D Printing in Frosted Detail Plastic on Shapeways
On the second point - it would be easier to just use copper sheets for passive cooling... -
For second mod; you will add a lot of weight to the laptop.
