Here is a review of the Invisible shield for the Dell M1330

I sent in my laptop to have a template made and applied for the Dell M1330, here is what I have received.

As you can see it has added a new texture and shiny surface to the matte black lid on the 1330.

Here you can see the cutout in the shield around the track pad, the fingerprint reader, and the Dell Logo on the outside case.

Here is another picture to show how shiny it makes the lid, you can also see the matte black on the bottom where it says XPS as a comparison.

Overall I am very happy with the finished product. I think invisible shields are the best protection product out right now because they allow the already beautiful machines to keep their original designs while being totally protected from scratching or scuffing. I buy these shields for practically every new electronic device I get. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is slightly interested. The product does take a few minutes to apply depending on how many times you have done it. The first time I did a computer it took me thirty minutes of perfecting it.

For the M1330 in particular the shield consists of one piece for the wrist pad area, and four pieces for the lid. There are two pieces, one each for the silver sides, one for the black top, and one large piece for the middle matte black area. There is not a shield over the XPS writing because it does not look good as all the water will not squeegee out, leaving it looking unnatural.

It will make your paint look shiny as opposed to matte, however depending on your tastes you may like this better, I certainly do. If you have any questions on this shield let me know and I will do my best to answer. There are many on this forum who can attest to the quality of Invisible shield and leave their devices to be protected by it.

How much did it cost for them to apply it? I know it isn't an easy task.

If anyone's interested, I have some photos of my Macbook Pro covered with the Invisible Shield.

Is there any ETA on one of these for a 1530?

If you can live without your laptop for about a week or so, you may contact them and let them know you would be interested in sending yours in for a template to be made from it. That is what I did and they applied mine for free, paid return shipping, and gave me the shield free. This is my second experience doing this and both have been fantastic. (PM me if you are interested and I will get you the proper contact info to help speed up things)

I think the regular application fee is 15$.
You do have to pay shipping both ways.

I do not even think about it anymore, I have protectors already bought and I am waiting to receive them before I buy new gadgets, like the iPhone. It is basically a guarantee you will never have a scratch on your device, plus you will still have the sexy finish of your nice high end devices such as the XPS line, or the iPhone etc...

I actually just did this with my XPS m1330, however the shield I recieved was a factory defect. It didn't have the cutouts for the track pad, track pad buttons, or the fingerprint reader! Moreover, the LCD rear bezel didn't have the cutout for the Dell Logo (which I think is actually a good thing since it protects the chrome finish). Lastly, I also recieved four narrow pieces for the side bezels and the bottom and top bezel (where the XPS logo is situated). The bottom piece had a cutout for the XPS logo.

After meticulously installing the thing, I discovered these errors and after looking at your post, I confirmed them. Now I am fighting with Invisible Shield to send me a replacement/refund (because my trackpad buttons are officially useless since they don't depress as well). But thanks for your post, which really demonstrates how the shield should look.

do u still have to send it in? i noticed invisible shield has an option for the shield for the m1330 on their site, so what would be the point of sending it in? also i dunno how i feel about wetting my whole laptop to apply this shield...i mean if you can get it to work, great..but i wish i was brave enough to attempt this because it looks really nice!

Well, apparently since lkingsvs sent his in, they now have it available for self install, so you can just order it and install it yourself. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, then you can send you notebook in to them to have them install it.

Did you have any success with getting a replacement from Invisible Shield?

I purchased the invisible shield for my m1330 as well and the only problem that i'm having is that the cutout for the fingerprint reader is missing.

    My pieces included:
-one for the top (with a cutout around the Dell logo)
-one for around that Dell logo
-the same narrow pieces for the bezels
-wrist pad that covers the fingerprint reader
    -track pad
    -one for track pad button

The whole point of them is so you don't have to get those ugly hard shells for your stuff.

I think they rely on people to send a product in so it can get a template made for them, they don't have a 1530 yet.

To bad it makes the matte black shiny :(

Impressions/review of the invisible shield for m1330

It took these guys 3 attempts to ship me a kit that was not damaged. During the packaging process, they were shoving the invoice down the "poster tube" it comes in, and damaging part of the shield. Third time was a charm.

Unlike the original poster, you get a 6 shields for the top:
1 for the dell cut out in the center.
1 large one to cover the entire black top.
    2 for the silver sides,
1 for the xps logo (xps cut out) and
    1 for the very top.

You get 4 shields for the wrist area:
1 large shield, cut out for pinger print reader and touch pad.
    1 for the touch pad
    2 for the buttons

Putting these things on is a real pain in the ass, and not a simple task. You have to take your time and keep your hands wet at all times with the spray they give you. The smaller pieces are very easy. The large pieces will test your patience. The water spray is key, or you will never get these shields on. Keep a good towel handy as well.

You have to be very careful removing the large pieces so they dont fold on themselves, if they do, your are in for a hell of time "un-glueing" the shield from itself. I had to put in under hot water and soap to free mine up. Yes you can wash it. It will still remain very sticky, and undamaged.

Keeping your fingers wet is key in not getting finger prints all over it.

I chose not to put the shields on the touch pad or the buttons, I did not want to impede the touch pad or squeeze water into the laptop. I think the whole idea of using liquid on electronics is nuts. But I was careful not to have run off into places...thus the handy towel.

The shield on the xps logo and the top of laptop have to fold over the edge, this was somewhat challenging to do...In the end I took them off. In order to fold over the edge you have hold it down and wait for the liquid to dry. I was not that patient.

I believe I protected the most important parts from scratches and scuff marks.

In the end, I am quite happy with product. It gives a leathery texture to the wrist area and the top as well. It does make the top very glossy. I much preferred the matte finish, but I would rather protect this investment instead.

THIS PRODUCT WAS A NIGHTMARE FOR ME TO INSTALL!

I fear that I have done a terrible job and the myriad imperfections all over my shield will be there as long as I leave the shield on.

Here are some pictures of my M1330 post-installation:

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do? Should I wait the reccomended 2-3 days? Should I remove the shield and just go my own way without it? Should I ask for a new one? Should I ask for it to be applied for me by the professionals at the company? I'm sorry for my frantic questions but I really thought this would be easier and more satisfying than it was.

    Hi.

I had a hard enough job doing my ipod, so god knows how hard a laptop would be.

I would have had Invisible Shield install it for me!

Dude...It was very challenging for me as well.

Did you use the squeegee they supplied you? You put these on like window tint. Also, did you liberally spray down the shield. It appears the shields got stuck on themselves. You can try again.

    1. gently remove the shields. wash with soap and warm water on the sticky side to remove finger prints and other marks. Use your hands to rub out the finger prints using a soapy solution. Rinse it out well.

    2. then spray it down again, and lay it on the laptop, you have to adjust it quick, then squeegee the solution to the edges and catch the run off with a towel. The squeegee is your friend, without it, you cannot achieve a smooth finish

It took me almost 3 hours to do my notebook. The big pieces are the real pain. In the end, you can always let them do it.

yes they NEED TO BE SPRAYED DOWN before applying them and the laptop needs to be CLEAN...i can see a lot of junk under the skin in your pic. you need to make sure its free of dirt and hair etc... use a microfiber cloth and a SMALL bit of rubbing alchohal to remove any grease as wel but dont rub ti hard with that. clean it up good then take the skin and when peeling these have a spray bottle ready and some towels.

peel back one small corner of the skin.. and give it a spray. continue to peel and spray making sure to keep the skin wet.

one done peeling give it even a couple more sprays just to be sure. let it drip off for just a min or so.

while still semi wet place it on the notebook and squegee out the extra water..with it being wet if you screw up it will not stick to itself or you will be able to peel it back and re apply it just make sure when you do peel it back you RE-SPRAY IT!!!

I just got mine in this morning and they STILL aren't sending these out with the fingerprint reader cut out. Annoying for such an expensive product... :(

Edit: Mine didn't have the Dell logo cut out either like some_taxpayer's did...they need to standardize these things.

Thats hilarious. They sent me the shield WITH the finger print cut-out and I specifically ordered the M1330 without one. I can tell you it looks stupid.

Strange that you did not get a Dell Logo cut out for the center. Mine was fine.

I'm guessing the remaining four small strips go on the inside? The two identical straight ones on the side bezels and the one with the big cutout at the bottom of the inner bezel and the one with the small cutout at the top where the camera is?

    Yes, you are correct.

You are going to find it challenging to "fold" the shield over the edge.

The web site recommends using a blow dryer to speed things up. I did not have the patience for xps cut out and the top where the camera is. In the end the matte black finish contrasting with the glossy top surface looked cool.

Good luck in getting it installed. It will definitely test your patience.

Is this possible to be removed if i wanted to later on?

I mean, if i put it on my M1330, what if i want to remove it later? Will it screw up??

P.S: You haven't covered the text DELL on the logo. Any troubles if covered?

Yes, you can remove the shield. You just peel it off. You will need a damp cloth to "buff" out the laptop's finish. But its harmless.

The shield does not cover the text "DELL", it surrounds it.

    All,

I would like to follow up on my experience with the shield.

They are not scratch proof, as they claim. My laptop cover has scratches on it now. Even if you drag your finger nail across it, it will leave a scratch mark.

I guess in the end, its better to scratch the shield rather than the laptop...

So you mean that doesn't have the finish of the laptop at all?

Does it have cutouts for the touch pad and buttons?

Any one have a recommendation before i get a shield for my M1330?

And Which one is better? Invisible Shield or something else?

No, the shield will provide you with a very glossy finish when you are done.
Yes, it has cutouts for everything, including touch pad and buttons. Careful when ordering, seems some shields are coming without the cutout for the finger print scanner.
    Its better than nothing...

Seems like a waste of money. Seems like one of the skinit skins would be more protective. Screen protection on a laptop only really matters if you're sticking your fingers all over it. Otherwise, you can just clean it off occasionally. Just don't leave your laptop open when not in use.

skinit skins are far inferior in quality to invisible shield. screen protection isn't even part of this package.
