    Here's a small guide:

    1. Download "VistaGlazz" from here: http://www.codegazer.com/downloads/VistaGlazzSetup.exe
By default Vista only allows "Visual Styles"/Themes from Microsoft to be used.
This program patches some system files to allow custom themes.
It will also create backups of the files to be patched so you can always revert to your old files later if you really need to.
"VistaGlazz" has a very simple interface and is pretty much self-explanatory and also comes with integrated help in case you need some more guidance (though I highly doubt it).

    2. Google some websites to download "Visual Styles" for Vista (XP themes won't work!) and put them in the "Windows/Resources/Themes" folder.
Here's a nice website with some of my favorite themes: http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/vistautil/visstyles/

    3. Right click on your desktop and select "Personalize".
In the new window click on "Theme" and select your new theme.

    4. Enjoy :)

If you need some more help just google "How to install Visual Styles".

All good info above, you should also note most themes won't change things like your back/forward buttons in explorer or anything of that nature. To change those up (its a little more difficult to do this) you'll have to either replace explorer.exe with one someone made or possibly some .dll files like shell32.dll & browseui.dll (lots of in depth skins on deviantart come with them, you just need a method to replace them).
