just in case you didn't know.....any mod other than stickers will probably void your warranty.
-
Painting, to do a good job you'll most likely have to take it apart and void the warrenty, will most likely void it if you paint it at all.
LED mods, you have to open it up and solder things onto the mother board, hence voiding the warrenty.
Laser etching requires a machine that uses a laser to burin into things, I doubt you have one of those at home.
Stickers wont void the warrenty, but IMO they'll be much uglier then just leaving your M1210 stock. -

idk wat if i paint a litle bit of the top while its closed.. i gota ask dell about that..
-
my boss covered his dell emblem on his 9300 awhile back with a round "savetheinternet.com" sticker. he put some cardboard over the dell logo so there would be a flat, solid surface to stick it to. you could do something like that.

dell says you can paint as long as your dont take it apart. you can search the thread and that was what someone got from a rep when they called, but that can't be too great of a job... and youd have to tape EVERYTHING....
-
and plus i just wana do a small paint job and then i mite start looking at bigger things like painting the whole cover.. i wana make it really shiny looking =)
-
btw wen i say led moding.. i mean like something thin that i can clip onto the notebook itself
-
The xps is a nice looking system which is surprising because dell usually does a tacky job on design now that they actually consider design. As pointed out painting will void your warranty most likely. Best way to do that is to take the machine apart. Sand and prime and apply a few coats using an airbrush. Or at least thats how we do it.

I think a removable vinyl printed sticker on the front cover and one on the inside
I have just designed one for my XPS.
As I am a sign maker I get to try this out no problems
that way you can have any thing you want on the cover and inside by far the best option very professional and being on removable vinyl after a year or two if you part with it the graphics come back off without leaving any glue..
here are the two images I have put togetherAttached Files:

NE1 hve 1ssuz wit da way dis ID10T typzzzzz??? -
Do you not like the m1210 look? Or is it just the Dell logo that you want to get rid of?
Keep in mind, as ejl noted, that laser etching, etc will probably void the warranty. You might want to 'break in' your new Dell before you void the warranty. -
Wow the M1210 is IMHO the best looking laptop Dell's got to offer. It would be great if they offered that look in 14" and above, but even if they don't I still want one badly.
-
Find yourself a dell cover and paint that so if it does not look good you still have a good looking laptop and can always sand down the cover and re-do the paint or design.
-
Leave it alone..Just use it. It's really a poor fashion statement no matter what you do to it.
-
or how about just painting or airbrushing on top of the existing paint on the sides of the mouse pad? some design that will already go with the existing silver paint...this wouldnt void the warrenty?

Engraving is probably the hardest to remove if your laptop is stolen.
-
What would the result be if you used a good quality laptop vinyl (such as skin-it) and then clear coating it with enamel?

How to paint an XPS m1210?
I'd suggest oil on canvas.
HAHA. Couldn't resist. -
I'd say go for a professional airbrush job, a tattoo for your true joy..
