    Hi,

I've been a lurker here for ages but never posted. However, I now need to :)
After using a Dell Inspiron 1520 for around 3 years (and loving it) I've finally decided to get myself a new laptop: Dell Studio 1537 (I've wanted one of these since the first time I laid eyes on one) though I've had to buy second hand because they don't sell these on the Dell website any more or even in computer shops. Even though it's second hand it's like new. However, I want to change the back cover from black to high gloss purple :) I need to know how to go about this as I've never done anything like it before. I've already found this - Documentation which has given me a damn good idea but I need something more... well... easy lol. I've searched Google and come up with nothing. Can anyone help me? I really need an easy, layman's terms, step-by-step guide. Better still; help from someone who has already done this modification them self.

Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks in advance!

For something like this I'd just recommend getting a skin to cover it. You can make it what ever you like! Though if you still want to do ahead with changing the lid, you will need to first find one. Then transfer all the parts over from the LCD to the new one. (I can't seem to find a lid on eBay...) I honestly would not know where else to buy one either.

You can go to a place like this and order a skin. Which can me made to cover the entire lid, not just a square of it.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply!

I really don't want to use a skin and have already found a new back cover on eBay (I'm in the UK) so definitely want to go ahead and use that... Now it's just fitting it lol.

Oh wonderful! It seems it may be a bit tedious with the LCD hinge and all, but possible. Just follow the steps in the service guide and you should be right.

Just follow this and you should be right! :)

Yes, it looks like the service guide is my best bet atm. However, I'd feel more at ease with doing this modification if I could just find a simpler guide... it doesn't look like there is one though. I think I'll be able to do it using the service guide. I'm just gonna keep on reading through it until I feel confident enough. Failing that, I'll just have to take it into a computer shop. I bet they'll charge a bomb though (so annoying for something that isn't hard *not for a pro anyway* and that would take no more than half hour *if that*)
