Hi. I have dell studio xps 1340 and I want to find out how to remove the DELL logo from the back of the LCD. Its shiny plastic(glossy).
Is there a way like using some chemicals to remove that dll silver paint? or that will make that part not shiny anymore.

Any chemicals that could take off the logo would also take off the base coat of paint.

Getting a skin would be the best idea, somehow I don't recommend hacking away at your laptop, or trying to burn it off. Can't end well!

DO NOT TRY THIS ON YOUR LAPTOP

Buy a replacement cover to test

On my Studio 1737 the media buttons are on a gloss black plastic piece that looks very similiar to your cover. Dell had printed "studio" on the gloss black plastic. I dipped a single q-tip into some "Goof Off" solvent and then rubbed the 'studio' text until It dissolved. I then dried the plastic with a paper towel, wiped it down with a separate water-damp paper towel, dried with a fresh paper towel, and repeated the washing again with clean towels.

The 'Goof Off' dissolved the lettering while leaving the gloss black finish unharmed. Yours may or may not be the same compound, If I were you I'd order a new cover, test solvents, and once you have discovered a safe solvent remove the branding.

On my laptop the dell logo is just a normal plastic sticker...it is no paint...you can simply peel it off.

Rather, yesterday while i was cleaning fingerprints by a clothe the E and L letters just came off with the cloth. Then i noticed that they are just hard plastic letters with stickness on the back. Just like letters we used to put on suitcases.

Now, i need to get a new sticker from dell...!!!

Personally I see nothing wrong with the Dell logo on your laptop. The logo looks classy on there. If you want to remove it you are setting yourself up for more problems than just leaving it on.

If you want to hide it. I would suggest you find your nearest sign shop. And ask them if you could have a scrap piece of glossy black vinyl tape. They'll probably give it to you for free since all you'll need is about a 6 inch piece that was headed for the trash.

Then measure the area and cutout the logo dimension on the vinyl tape then apply the tape over the logo.

    Do NOT use acetone.
Tried it once with a mouse, the plastic turned into "goo" that later got "stuck", so it wasn't smooth anymore (hard do explain).
I assume it will turn out the same if used on a laptop cover, thus become ruined and look horrible.

I wouldn't try removing the logo with any kind of solvent simply because it would lower the resale value.
Someone mentioned using vinyl tape in the same colour to just cover the logo, but not the whole laptop.
This wouldn't damage it in any way and you would be able to remove the tape once ready to be sold.

Remove the entire outer case. Take the case to a paint shop and have it sandblasted with very fine grit. Will give you a nice even rough texture over the entire machine.

As a try-at-home, use wet-dry sandpaper (use it wet) start with about 400 grit and rub off the logo and rub the rest of the case to the same texture. Go up to 1000 grit or higher, and finish with a 3M automotive headlight polishing kit (look on Amazon). SOmebody did this to his iphone, and it made it look much nicer (no silly apple logo).
