I am looking at getting an HDTV come closer to Christmas time. I'm wondering what people here have used as computer monitors because I will be hooking a desktop I am building up to it as a media center/gaming PC. I have a nice laptop that I use for homework and everyday tasks but I want one to hook up to a TV to play my games on and stuff while I am home.

I have family/friends that work at ABC Warehouse so I can a TV for a really good price through them, so as long as it retails right around $1,000 or just a bit more I'm cool with it. I am also looking for 1080p and bigger than 32". I know this seems like a lot of stipulations but I've seen them retail for $1,000 - $1,300. Thanks for any suggestions.

Most all should do fine. Just make sure you have the 1080p.

Make sure you pay attention to the pixel response time if you're getting a LCD.

Well what is a decent pixel response time for using an LCD tv as a monitor then?

lol, its not the size of the screen that matters, its the resolution. A 72" 1080p and a 37" 1080p tv should give the same fps in a game.

hmm thats really odd and uncommon. Maybe one just has a better response time so it seems like higher fps while playing. otherwise, 1080p is 1080p the tv size will not make it run any faster or slower.

$1000-$1300 should be a really nice budget, especially with today's LCD prices. i highly recommend stickin with a nice brand. best bang for the buck LCD's are gonna have to go to samsung. cream of the crop would be sony bravias.

for gaming and sports, u'll want somethin in the 4 or 5 ms response time range or lower. the best thing to do is just goto a big store and check out the tv's in person. if possible, find a store that has competent workers that can tune the picture quality correctly.

I agree... also look online at the manuals for specific TV's you're considering. Some of them only support specific resolutions/connections. In addition look at audio video boards to see if anyone else has tried those specific TV's.

When I bought my LCD I was looking for a passable image at a low price and I got what I paid for. I love it for what it is but I could never use it with my laptop (I tried for giggles)

Recently there was a 40" Samsung 1080p LCD or plasma for $800 in Canada ... Should have similar deals where you live?
