If you just want to add a little personal flair to your notebook, without removing any components, sharpies work wonders. I used a permanant marker and stencil to apply the Unreal Tournament logo to my computer. It worked wonderfully. It doesn't rub off, but you have to make sure it is a brand new marker or else it will show up purple. The lines are crisp. Best of all, you can get rid of it if you don't like how it turned out! A damp cloth and some rubbing alcohol will dissolve the color, letting you put on a brand new image. Note that Marks-a-lot works very well on plastic, while Sharpie works better on metal. Make sure to get various sizes of markers. I do not reccomend this for all-over color, spraypaint works much better for that. This also adds security, as you can easily identify your laptop.

That's pretty bold. Send me a picture if you need it hosted.

I'll have some pictures up soon. I will need them hosted, though. From a few feet away you wouldn't tell that it was just a sharpie. I was using a fine-point marker. If you use a larger point, the results will be even better. I am going to put on a second coat to get rid of the brush marks.

Being the perfectionist that I am, I would never "deface" my notebook.
I am glad you like it though [].

That sharpie marker ideas sounds haggard as hell. Ive heavily modded my xbox system both performance, but also have built it a new case. Use a enamel model car paint if anything and all i can say is MASKING TAPE...mask the hell outta it. Xbox fuq up =$200 ugliness.... Laptop fuq up= $2000 ugliness

That really looks cool, good job!
-
Not sure I'd want to do that to my own MBP, but I agree with scooberdoober. Must have taken quite a while to do the work, no?
-
I took half hour to paint my cellphone :S for a detail good painting will take more than 1 hour

Wow... way to dig up a 3 year old thread.

I think it's an awesome idea to sharpie your laptop. I had decorated mine just a few weeks ago and a couple of my friends called me crazy for "coloring my laptop". I think it's so cool. Here's a picture of what I've done: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e39/Elfae48/001.jpg
The only problem is that over the past few days the marker has been rubbing off. Sometimes I notice marker on my hands and then I realize it came from the laptop, which is now smudged. Is there any way I can "seal" the design? I was thinking maybe clear nail polish, but would that really work?
Thank you. -
good luck trying to sell that
-
Get yourself a can of acrylic clear coat and shoot it with that.
-
urm yeah i cant see myself going to woollies to buy a pack of sharpies anytime soon somehow i just dont justify ruining my $3000 machene just so it is individua...till the ink runs
-
Besides it would be easy to remove or seal with a clearcoat
I congratulate who ever did that, its not bad I could see my girlfriend wanting something like that on her laptop -
i think if you wanna do that stuff just put a skin on there
-
10-4 sonyfxa36!
Every thing else short of the skin-its and laser engraving is just too tacky for me...
But thats why they're called PCs, b/c they're personal, so do what you want...

thats what i meant by my post, if u want to personalise your computer why dont you get a skin or laser engraving or even buy a custom made laptop cover????

Yeah old thread and the OP hasn't signed on since October this year, so your probably not getting any responses. I'll close this.
Don't paint your laptop, Sharpie it!
