I have a Dell E1505, and I was wondering if I just paint the top of the lid - will it void my four year warranty through dell?

I am painting parts of my Voodoo over thanksgiving break, and I might as well beautify my dell, by painting the lid a nice bavarian blue color.

I wouldn't paint it just in case unless you are sure it is just the outside over and out.

I think the rule with Dell is that if you don't have to disassemble your notebook, they are fine with it as long as you don't damage anything in the process. You might want to check with them first, but I wouldn't worry too much about it, if its just the lid.

    You are in the US....

Technically they can not void your warranty even if you disassemble the computer. However if you break something while taking it apart they do not have to cover the damage.

additionally if something happens not related to the paint job (meaning they are legally bound to warranty it) they may not want to fix it and could make things difficult.....

Could someone verify if this applies to the UK as well? I have three years insurance on my laptop through an outside company but I would like to have my laptop spruced up. It would be good to know how this affects us over the pond.
