I Just got my notebook back a few days ago and the new skin looks awesome. The plasma clouds are airbrushed pearls. The icons were hand painted. In medium or low light the pearls fade into the background and it looks black. In bright light or from certain angles the pearl plasma clouds just pop.
The pictures don't do it justice. The vids are a little better but it is still soooo much better looking in person. The idea for the paint job came from an OpenGL scr that I have. A screen cap of the scr can be seen in the pre-painted picture.

It was painted by an Visual Tonix in St Louis. It was the first computer he had painted (he does motorcycles). It is PPG automotive paint. The area between the keyboard and monitor was not painted as it has deep grooves and would be very difficult to sand and shine without disassembly. The bottom was not painted.
Time was taken and Matt Fobian is a true professional. I am very happy with the results.

The after picture is kinda dark and hard to make out... looks cool though. Did you do it yourself?

    Very good customization!
Good painting and good image, it seems one of my preferred screensavers (maybe is the same)
I spent a lot of time searcing a notebook with an original and stylish exterior, but as I saw these photos I started thinking of buying a simple gray notebook and then painting it on my own!!! :D :D :D
Have you painted also the space between the keyboard and the screen? And also the bottom?
Can you tell us how did you do it? (Or how someone done it?)

Thanks for the nice comments. Sorry for the dark pics, I will try to get some pictures outside in the sun and post them.

It was painted by an airbrush guy in St Louis. It was the first computer he had painted (he does motorcycles). It is automotive paint. The area between the keyboard and monitor was not painted as it has deep grooves and would be very difficult to sand and shine. The bottom was not painted.

The process is the same as with a bike except you mask first so that you get nothing into the computer...

I felt the same way. I wanted to build a notebook and there was no way it was going to stay boring grey. If you want to get this done I would recommend doing as you would for a car or bike. ie-Most good size citys have someone who is more than capable of doing a good job. You want to find someone with experience on bikes and/or cars. It is also VERY important to look at thier work and make sure they have the skill and experience to provide the artwork you want.

    edit:
    - JUST POSTED BETTER PICS (including pics of the mouse which was painted as well)-

The new images are much better!
Now i'm sure: when I'll buy my new notebook I will paint it! :D :D :D
(not sure i'll do the job on my own, I'm not so expert in painting)

    Having a painted cpu isn't a good thing... :p

it's very good also the mouse!
