This kind of related to Smith X's thread, but it would be cool if you had stickers for things like Graphics Cards And Sound Cards. For example: you have the designed for Windows badge, the badge showing the processor. So it would be cool to jazz your laptop with a few additional touches on the plam rests. How cool would that look. Having nVidia, Creative, Kingston or Crucial stickers on your laptop. But are these badge stickers avaliable? It would look professional as well, not going over the top with design.

It's funny, I was just going to post a question asking if all those goofy palm rest stickers will leave a gooey residue if I take them off. They bug me.

I haven't pealed mine off yet. I think they're kind of like the 'V6' badging on a car. I just let my stickers gradualy peal off themselves.

On my old laptop they all eventually pealed off except the darn Windows sticker. Even the Satellite sticker came off. =P

I peeled off my girlfriend's Windows sticker, and she got ticked. I hated seeing the stupid little corner flapping up. Apparently, she didn't mind. Not sure what I'll do about mine, but, as soon as they start to go, I'll finish the job. I don't like loose-thread-type issues.

I peeled all of them on my girlfriends Acer 5024wlmi (ATI, Turion and MS Win XP). I did ask her if I may do it, and surprisingly she agreed, albeit she likes everything colorful and trashy. ;)

In my opinion, it looks way cooler without stickers. Even on cars. People wondering what's under the hood ;)

I wish they wouldn't put them on the palm rests. Not that I necessarily want to see them all the time, but I think they get ratty looking from skin oils etc.

I agree with mech_e. Mine have been getting ratty since day 1, but they're still clinging in there. I don't have case badges on my desktop, despite many componants coming with one, why would I want them on my laptop?

    To be honest. I agree, I don't like them on the palmrest. I think manufacturers should find somewhere to put them on the sides or back, if possible. o_O;

I love them on the palmrest Niki. In a way, it is a kind of Branding. As you have logos of notebook manafacturers like dell and asus, you have these stickers which often look very attractive and they often attract the lame buyer who just wants a laptop, but he knows nothing about computers and does not know what kind of laptop he is buying or what it is designed for.

I think the logos should be embedded in the palmrest, instead of just having stickers. That would look cool. It would look silly if they hide the stickers on the back or on bottom of the notebook and would very much define the point of having the stickers. they also give buyers what the laptop has at a glance. The point of the stickers is to define what the laptop has, and I wouldnlt mind the palmrests on my laptop coverd with stickers. Although I must say too many would look silly and stupid. The stickers also give a professional, clean and expensive feel to the laptop. Sadly, I have two, very lame looking bages on my palmrests. A poor looking Intel pentium III badge and a designed for Windows ME and 2000 badge which follows the old, 2D Windows sign, which DOES NOT look attractive. I'll be posting my badges in a while and I think we should post our badges here!

The Stickers also personalise the laptop and make it feel that it is yours.

Skin oils make the badges shiny and make them look good.

What have you done!? Peeling them off makes the laptop look old and tacky, as it leaves rips and part of the stickers get left behind. The stickers have some kind of highly adhesive glue which when you peel off, leave horrible, sticky glue bits, which stick to your wrist and also they dry up into a solid white colour, making the laptop ugly and unsightly to look at,

If you really want to peel them off, use Nail Polish remover to get rid of the glue. It may sound silly but it works. There's a tip for you Niki. ;) :D

Companies don't put stickers on as Graphitti, they use the stickers to advertise their products in a decent way. Saying Brand stickers are graphtti, is like saying the big, silver dell logo on inspirons is Graphitti

I said, I thing they are like the 'V6' logo on the side of a Car. Sure they put the company logo inside the car but not the 'V6' badging. On the outside companies put they're logo on the grill or top of the hood and put the other badging on the side or back. I think thats how it should be in notebook computers. Dell logo beneath the screen and ontop of the lid. Stickers on the side and back.

Guess I used the wrong term when I said "grafitti", wasn't sure what else to call it. I realize it is for advertising, but it kind of reminds me of a NASCAR (which I'm also not a fan of) running around with tons of sponsor logos all over it. Just think stickers are a little tacky is all. Just my 2 cents.

I peel mine off and just scrub the gooey stuff off. Thinkgeek sells some badges (but for desktops mostly) I like the tux badge!
Also you could consider using a felt pen like that guy who made himself a Unreal tournament logo haha lol! Also custom laptop companies like falcon nw and others do paintjobs with logos and such.

My friend's dad's an IT manager for the carton company Tetra Pak. He has free Apple Notebooks from the company every year or so, which he gives to his son. Lucky Guy

My first laptop was form the National Health Service in Britian. My mum was and still is a surgeon and she needed a laptop to do research....do presentations, excel, word and so on. She ended up getting two for some reason and I had a brand new compaq laptop when I was four!! :D It's was rather dated compared to today's laptops. Use to run on windows 3.1. I think that explains it. I also got addicted to this Nascar Game which I loved so much! I'm not quite sure what car I always use to drive, but it was red and blue...all I remember. I also kept on crashing into the "partition wall" when I entered the pit lane. A warning saying engine damage promptly came up on screen and I was disqualified on many, many, many occasions.

I personally like the stickers. The ATI or NVIDIA sticker says to me: "I'm no ordinary notebook with integrated graphics" Though I don't have much room to speak. My card is, let's say, not exactly new :D I wouldn't consider adding any more than standard though. Then you are just trying to show off (which I dislike). Similar to sticking 6 NOS stickers on your Civic. If you are so proud about it, show it by using it rather than advertising it.
And referring to the engine emblems on a car: I love those when you have a good engine. My mom's '05 STS has the Northstar V8 emblem on the back, and I think that it is just the coolest thing to see on a sedan. It's an exhilarating car to drive, or to just listen to :) (beautiful rumble at 2300rpms) Northstars sound so much cooler than hemi's of equal or larger size.

ATI was smart about my part and rather than putting:
    They just put:
I am making fun of my video card, but it actually isn't half bad for what I do (internet, music, video, photoshop) -- What? Who cares if integrated solutions can do it too! Mine can do it better :D

I removed my palm stickers with no residue, scratches and evidence. Used my nails, peeled gently, and rubbed of the sticky stuff with my sweaty fingers. It took a couple of minutes. Then I placed a cool linux sticker over the badge on the cover. Trying to convert a few souls to Linux here :)

The stickers on my Fujitsu N6210 were perfectly aligned. And when I swapped for an N6010 case, the stickers on that were aligned too. I wasn't crazy about them though, especially since N6010 comes with a P4 when I have a PM inside, so I took them off.

Peeled them off with nails. Some left residue, some didn't. The Windows XP sticker was the worst. Took care of the residue with Multi-Purpose Remover that I keep around the house just for those occasions. You can get it at a hardware store, brand name is Oops, it looks really stupid, but it always does the job and never damages the surface, unlike acetone. Could've done it without it, but it's just so much easier with. You can even use it to remove nail polish if you wish, but it takes longer than acetone since it's not as hard core and corrosive. Yeah..

I kept the NSeries LIFEBOOK sticker though. It's see through with letters in silver, so it complements the white case very well. And, it's to the right of the palmrest (since it's a widescreen laptop with a number pad) so it doesn't get dirty. They know what they're doing :)

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to notebooks, I'll freak out at the smallest scratch or scuff on my notebook. Anyhoo, two of my Satellite palmrest stickers are already getting slightly worn, showing white spots, where I guess my palms rubbed off the red paint of them. Its a very extremely small cosmetic issue, just irritates me.

I personally like the notebook stickers as well as several others and I hope they will stay on as long as possible.
The two HP stickers on my old HP just peeled off by themselves a couple of weeks after I got the computer, they just refused to stick on!

It's a very long and frustrating story. The short answer is, P1. They didn't plan on doing it though, so I don't know if they'll do it for you if you ask - but you can try. The keyboard is the original black one. The N6010 white one was on backorder. They backordered it, but they didn't think they were going to get it, so they just sent it to me as is (cause I didn't want to wait for an eternity for something that may not happen). They said they'll send me the white keyboard if they ever get it, which they didn't, so I don't know if it's because they never got it (quite possible) or because the whole project was too frustrating and they decided to keep the keyboard just in case.

It would look better with a white keyboard, but it doesn't look like a horrible accident as is. A lot of laptops have a white keyboard with black or grey surroundings - mine is the opposite. P1 lost my black touchpad, so they replaced it with the white N6010 one free of charge, yay.

The one down side to doing it was, N6010 and N6210 have the memory card reader in different spots, so my N6210 card reader is blocked. I got a PCM card for $25 and stuck it in the PCM slot - not like I'm using it for anything anyway - so it's all good. Also, probably by accident, the case they used is for when you have a TV tuner (which I don't), so I have non-functional channel up/down and TV/DVD/CD buttons on top of the keyboard. I think there was nothing there before, and it's not that big of a deal. I'm glad I got the white case :)

I've got HP's NX6125 and I would really like to get rid of the stickers in the front for aesthetic reasons. The windows one seems to be hard metal and the AMD one is also metal foil. Anyone torn theirs off? What sort of mark or residue do they leave?

My N6010 stickers also looked like metal, but they weren't, and as I posted previously, they were easy to remove with a little multi-purpose remover, though the job can be done without it with a little bit more time. The Windows one was hard to remove and left a lot of reside that needed to be removed. Your Windows sticker looks like mine used to, so it's probably the same.

I also have a very very old IBM 770z laptop that someone gave me. He tried to remove the stickers, and ended up peeling all the paint off, so it's possible that they were metal, though I never saw them. I think if you start peeling them off, you'll see if they're metal or not based on how the corners bend (or not), and then you'll know how to proceed.

Lol I use to play that on my old compaq laptop that I sold years ago. It use to run MS-DOS though. It could be cool if they released a Windows version of the old game. I don't even remember what games develouper made that game.....but luckily EA have a released a few new versions. The new 06 version of NAscar looks totally stunning. I'll be looking forward to driving the wrong way around the track again and making some spectacular crashes!!!! I love the game so much that I wouldn't mind a laptop sticker saying EA Nascar on the palmrest!!

It seems as though the lifespan of these stickers tend to correspond with the lifespan of the laptop. In my mind, that sounds like perfect advertising. Leave them on because when they wear off, someone's telling you that its time for a new machine.

That being said, I'm taking mine off before I have to witness their decay.

I don't see the thrill of advertising a company. I usually peel the stickers off when a laptop/desktop arrives.

I put sticker on because I like them. I'll have to take a picture soon, but I have a Pentium M sticker, ATI sticker, Centrino sticker, window sticker, and a sound blaster sticker on my laptop. I dunno, I just like the looks of them, it is all a matter of opinion and taste, something you can't argue with.

if you do want to peel off stickers. After you've peeled of the sticker, it leaves a sticly residue behind. Use a cloth dampened with nail polish remover to get rid of it.
