Hey everyone,
i'm not sure if this is the right place, but....
I have an averatec, and after a year, theres literally a smooth spot all around it. I can't tell if its oil or wear, but i thinks it oil. I know i can clean oil with a magic erasor, but can i clean wear?
Thanks
P.S Is it me or do the hp dv series just don't get oil on them as easily??

magic eraser?never heard...

it's wear.

Definitely wear. It happens to most.

If it really bothers you, you might ... and that's a big maybe ... be able to use 99% rubbing alcohol to slightly oxidize the plastic. I've done this a few times on my thinkpad (when I had it) to bring back some of the texture. The texture never really lasted long.
But using rubbing alcohol will get rid of any oil if the problem is caused by oil. -
Generally cleaning isn't going to improve functionality that much in this case. If you can replace the part that would be best.

Just buy a new sticker to put on top of it.

This is something that happens to nearly all notebooks. I've even seen touchpads that have been used to the extent that the paint on them has worn off and there is just a big white spot in the middle of the touchpad.

90% rubbing alcohol on a paper towel cleans laptops the best in my opinion.
Acetone ... not so much. -
