    hi
i have an acer 8204wlmi which is a couple of years old now and ive used a wacom tablet when im using photoshop on the laptop but i came across this yesterday
    http://www.slashgear.com/hantech-siso-tablo-review-finally-2644675/

and i got the idea of converting the screen on the laptop to swing around so i could use it like a tablet pc.
so i would need to remove it from the 2 hinges that it has and make a centre mounted hinge which swivels
would this be possible to do with the acer?

    thanks

probably not, depending on where the cables go from the chasis to the LCD.

    Possible? Yes.

Feasible? No. If you have to ask, it's out of your capability range [don't take this offensively, I doubt I could pull this off either, and I do quite a bit of hardware modding].

just take a look at the backside of your notebook. Do you see all those connectors. How do you think you could put a swivel between them, which are mounted on the mainboard directly? Yes, it's impossible.

    You have to options:
    1. You remove the connectors in the middle of the backside and expand the casing there to create space for the swivel to create a convertible tablet PC
    or
    2. You build a slate tablet PC.

The most palatable answer so far (the rest are far too negative). It's doable, but it's going to be a much, much bigger headache than it's really worth. In other words, don't do this expecting to have an ersatz tablet in a day or two; do it only if you really, really feel like experimenting, and if the feeling of accomplishment that would come from doing it successfully would be the only real benefit you want out of the deal.

As a practical matter, you will basically have to reengineer the entire laptop/lcd connection, including not just the single swivel hinge and the swivel connections for the power feed and the data ribbon cable, but also the tensioners that keep the screen open at a particular angle. Right now, the screen most likely stays where you put it by means of two tension mounts, one on either side of the display unit. Without those tension mounts, the screen would just flop over, backwards or onto the keyboard depending on how far open it was. Your project would get rid of those mounts, and you would therefore have to provide an alternative solution to keeping the screen in the position you place it in. Now, if you just want to be able to turn it around 180 degrees and lay it flat against the keyboard, that presents less of an issue; however, at that point you'll have to be careful to make sure that the system doesn't use airflow through the keyboard to keep itself cool, because if you lay the screen down flat on the keys, you'll be blocking most of any such airflow.
