    CD-Rom Bay Laptop Fan?

    In all seriousness though, there isn't mich point. Unless you can get airflow from the fan through the heatsink then you're wasting your time.

    Something similar to the vents on the side of a laptop like this:

    Except it would be on both sides. Something to bring air in through one side and have air out the other. I never use my cd drive and seems like a good idea. I can see almost straight through my laptop by taking out the cd rom.

    Wondering if there is a fan that can bring in air through a thin portion like the cd rom bay.

    Actually that isn't a bad idea. It would take some work to actually make it functional though.

    Simply bringing air would be the easy part. Directing that air towards the heatsink would be the tricky part. You'd have to craft up some ducts that would channel the air to the heatsink and not disturb the existing fan's operation. Otherwise you could have two fans working against each other's flow of air.

    Most laptop fans bring in air through the top or bottom sides of the laptop and exit through its side. With this type of fan, you could probably fit two fans in place of the CD-ROM but the intakes would probably have to come from the bottom. I would probably try one fan plus the duct work. Simply blowing air into the case might not be as efficient, but it would be a starting point.

    There's also the disadvantage of powering two fans, which translates to more energy consumption and less battery life while not using the AC adapter. Not to mention the increased fan noise. Some users can't even stand one fan running let alone two fans.

    Unless your temps are very high, I think a HDD caddy and and extra HDD or SSD in the ODD bay would be more beneficial. Even if youre temps were very high, a repaste, cleaning and a laptop cooler/lifting the laptop off the table with bottle caps would be more effective.
