I have an Acer Travelmate 507DX with a broken hinge on the screen.
Would like to remove the screen completely and use only a flat screen monitor.
Is there a problem in "cutting" the screen free?
    Thanks for any advice

Instead of cutting it, which might hit wires and do all sorts of odd things, just disassemble it slightly and remove the screen part.

that sounds like a horrible idea - screens require a lot of voltage to run, which all goes through tiny cables in tiny spaces. who knows what a short of that much voltage would do to your motherboard.

especially if the screen is still working.
get a friend to help you, anyone who has taken a few things apart wont have TOO much trouble.

Just disassemble it like said above, I did once to my Dell. But, as it turns out, the Wireless cables/Antenna go up through mine, not sure about yours though.

EDIT: Or why don't you just replace the hinge?
