I dont care but if it sticks out generally well at least on HP laptops it gives you better battery life

It looks nicer flush, but the only batteries that aren't are usually larger batteries so you are gaining more mobile time. I don't go mobile that often so I prefer flush though I really don't mind non-flush.

I prefer a laptop that can still get good battery life with a standard flush battery.

I can handle a battery that sticks out only from the back, but not downward.

how long do you all think would be considered "good battery life with a non flush battery"? also, can you think of any example laptops that have this?

Extended batteries of most 15.4” and larger notebooks are flushed. Therefore I assume you are referring to 14.1" or smaller notebooks ??

Battery life depends a lot on the notebook platform (CPU and chipset), it’s components (integrated graphics, LED monitor, etc..)and how you use it (Gaming, light work i.e word processing, Wi-Fi/BT use, etc..).

I'd say anything over 4.5 hrs for a small notebook with a flushed battery is good.

Inspiron 1505 with the 9 cell battery. As well as many of the dell d series laptops with 2 batteries (1 in the optical drive bay).

There is no way the E1505 gets 4.5 hrs of battery life.
I can barely push over 2 hours on the 6 cell

My Dell inspiron 8500 could push over 6.5 hours on its dual battery array. (9 cell primary, and 6 cell optical drive battery)
The inspiron e6400 is supposed to have amazing battery life. John Ratsey quoted it at nearly 9 hours if I remember it correctly.
For 15" their probably isnt any system which can push over 6 hours anymore.

New Centrino 2 notebooks are much more battery efficent than older ones.
However, even a M1330 with an older T7300 CPU and an integrated X3100 can do around 5hrs with a flushed 6 Cell according to this review. I get around 3Hrs 15mins with my dedicated card, therfore I'm sure it can pass 4.5hr mark with an integrated card. So there are plenty of notebooks with flushed batteries which can do over 4.5, especially the newer ones.
