Someone asked about a backlit keyboard mod for the envy 15, and that got me curious about the HP DV7-3000 - has anyone done a backlit keyboard mod for this model? Is this even possible?

    Thanks

Upon reflection i have realised that this is not a good mod. Backlit keyboards are only good if the letters themselves allow light through in the shape of a letter. Our mods will never do this. So i will leave my laptop's keyboard as it is. I will however add a light of some kind for typing at night.

    wellllllll

not if we use our imagination.
the first thing i would do is buy a cheap non OEM backlit keyboard for any 17 inch HP laptop, making sure the cable looks similar enough and that there is an extra cable of some sort for the actual backlight.

what i see as a FAILPROOF backlight keyboard mod for ANY laptop is to replace the individual keys with those of a backlit keyboard. sure not all laptop keys are functionally the same. but MOST of them are.
the rest is easy with led strips.

alternatively i have been thinking about what it would be like to drill a hole in each of the keys, then use some sort of a spreader.

if someone doesnt figure this out soon, then i will because SO many people want to mod a backlight on their keyboard.

Can you post a link to one? I couldn't find any for the DV7-3000 series. All the ones i found were either for different models, or were not backlit keyboards.

    Thanks

I thought of trying something like this but the main problem is that you can't backlight the keyboard letters, they need to be cut perfectly and filled in with something clear. Its doable but it'll be very difficult to get a good finish. I doubt you could get away with using a dremel, you'd at least have to laser cut the keyboard letters.

Dude see now what i mean these Sagers are nice but cmon time for a backlit keyboard for godsake. Anyway looks awesome and i would love to see that on a Envy 15 since i have been deciding to get it or not, that's kinda the only thing that is stopping me from getting one though.

The envy 14" and 17" both have back-lit keyboards.
