Well I want to change the color of the LED's from whiteish blue to RED. IS there any way that I can do this?

Nope. The led itself is white so there physically is no way to change it. It's like trying to make a light bulb glow red.

Is there any material that I can put on the LED's to change the color or any way to change the LED's themselves?

I do not mind opening the thing up.

good idea, such a simple but cool mod.
just some red cellophane would do it.

Edit: I think I'll make my lights all different colors. this will be fun.

As others have said, you can just cover up the LEDs with colored cellophane (although you may have to do some color mixing, if your current color is more blue than white, otherwise it will come out purple with a red filter).

If you're really ambitious, you can unsolder and replace the actual LED, but it's extremely easy to break something doing that.

You know, if you can access the back panels of the LED, you can place a piece of wrapper behind the glass panel instead of wrapping the glass. This will offer better protection against wear and tear to the exposed environment to the coloured wrapper you place.

Though an XPS M1730, but this is very similar to what probably you might be doing. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=358422

juz open it up and change the led -.- ... it is simple ... zzz juz make sure u know how to put back everything after u dismantle ... in which most people will have a problem in. Taking everything out is easier than puting back in trust me.

It's not a simple LED (or at least not in my notebook).
It would be hard to solder such a thing.

Also it's hard to find those kinds of LEDs, where would you buy one?

you can try also acrilic paint, but its kind of dangerous if you don't have a good pulse .. but if you cover the borders of the leds with paper tape possibly you won't fail at painting exactly the leds.

However take in mind that once you use acrilic paint there's no turning back, you won't be able to remove it.
