Is there any way to make that light brighter?

A friend of mine who works with apple computers just called me and told me he just finished modding his MBP. Apparently he got the apple light on the lid to change colours. Hes got blue, red, green. I call BS on him and told him I wouldnt believe it until I see it.

Can it be done? I dont thikn it would look too great, more annoying than anything to other people.

The light up Apple logo is just the light from the screen. The brighter your screen is, the brighter the Apple logo will be.

I don't think it can change lights...it should only display white colour. Unless he modded it in the sense he replaced the backlight.

You can put a piece of colored paper between the backlight to make it glow a different color, but I wouldn't know how to make it dynamically change colors.

As far as brighter you could get a lens that was more 'clear' than the translucent on that comes on it. Not sure if that would work but maybe worth a try.

I saw a powerbook with a switchable light at a LAN party last year. The guy had leds he installed in the lid. He could switch them between off, blue, and red with a micro switch installed in the kensington lock slot.

Thats pretty cool as far as mods go, but I'm not totally sure if it would look all that great.

Having it blindingly bright is pretty cool. Making it colored is just weird. Seems like a pretty easy mod to me. I don't know if you can take the lid off the MBP and MB though.

You can take anything apart [IMG] Getting things to fit back together is the tricky part.

You can get an extremely small bulb and connect it to the lcd power. For the coloring, get a piece of colored tissue paper and put in there, and close it back up. Pretty simple.

changing the color will most likely just look kind of silly.

i doubt it is super easy to remove the LCD backpanel of a MBP but I am sure that info is pissing about the net somewhere.
