Hello all, after my DV9000 died from multiple heat related issues, (hinge cracked, power system failed, video card failed), I sent it back to HP for out of warranty repairs and I bought a new Dell 1720. Well, the Dell will arrive today and I just KNOW that the touchpad will drive me nuts after getting use to the glossy HP touchpad. So, my question is, does anyone know where I might find touchpad films that have the glossy finish that the HP had?
-
i think you will find the non glossy touchpads easier to use. If you put a film on top of the trackpad it might reduce the trackpads reponse and sensitivity
try it first.. -
I appreciate the response, however I have hyperhydrosis, and it makes for sweaty fingers. I am actually posting on my 1720 now, and the texture plus sweaty fingers is driving me nuts! I had an inspiron 2650 for 4 years prior to the dv9000, and it bothered me too. I miss the dv9000 so much right now because it was a sticky feeling (which is great with sweaty fingers), but crappy quality doesn't justify the nice touchpad. I may be a bit crazy, but the texture is to me like fingers on the chalkboard is to most people. I can hardly deal with it!
So, are there any recommendations on film sources? I read that 3m makes some protective films stuff, is it safe for the pc touchpad? -
yes 3m clear sheets will probably be the best choice but chances are there will be no glossy skins. Most people prefer them to be as clear as possible so its unnoticable
I cant find the past threads about people that have done this. Ill get a mod to move this thread on the Cosmetic Modifications section. Maybe someone can help you better there -
Hey gtzpower, I have hyperhydrosis too, although I've never met anyone else who has it. I totally know what you're talking about--the rough textured trackpads with sweaty hands do not mix well! LOL The 6700t SE is perfect for my needs and I love how smooth the the texture is for both the trackpad AND the keys! I don't like the way most notebook keyboards feel because of their textured surfaces while droplets accumulate on my fingertips!

Thanks flipfire, I will start looking for the sheets.
justinluck: I am sad (yet somewhat happy) to see someone else having the same problem. Its funny that you mention the keyboard. I never really minded the keyboard on the 2650 or the dv9000. I noticed last night that this new inspiron really has an annoying texture on the keys. BUT, it doesn't bother me too badly there because its tap and go. Sliding my finger across them makes me shriek though.
So, I think the 3m stuff is the way to go. Any ideas on where I might be able to find it locally so I can feel it? Office Max or something like that?
Its really too bad that I cant stick with HP. I like the features and design over all, but my last 3 HP products (Laptop, camera, laser printer) have all died (would not power up at all) within a few months after the warranty ran out. They aren't getting any more business from me. The Inspiron 2650 is still running well since 2003 (it has outlasted the DV9000 by far) -
I've actually covered my touch pad(Dell Latitude 630) with the 3M clear plastic, and its MUCH better. It doesn't make it any less sensitive, but it feels much better.

Great, thanks for the product review. I am happy to hear it works well for you
BTW, Audi FTW! I have a 4.2 A6, very nice cars. -
I bought this for 3.64 shipped. I cut it out and installed it, and it seems to work well after 20 minutes of use. I definitely like the feel. Not as sticky as the hp (maybe due to being so new), but a nice smooth responsive experience.
Now there's NOTHING HP offers that I cant have... that I want anyway
Any touchpad films for a glossy finish like HP laptops have?
