I don't see why stickers won't work. It's plastic, so any normal sticker should apply to it just fine. What sort of things were you trying to put on there.

Man I am trying to do the same thing. But I dont see any kind of sticker besides a black type background to look any good on the rough service of the T61. But yes I would be interested in anything that would make the T61 more "stylish".

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to mount a really thin screen just to display a picture or wallpaper type thing on the external side of a Thinkpad's LCD screen.

The top of the T61 has a rubberized coating so its not really plastic that you are applying the sticker too.

    It's actually www.colorwarepc.com ;)

I always wanted to go with candy apple red, but shipping back and forth from Kuwait would be a hastle.

It may not have the best looks, but in the T61p, you can get a Qaudro FX 570m, which is equivalent to an 8600GT with GDDR3. How is that not a great graphics card? Until the 8700 and 8800 series cards hit laptops, this was one of the best cards you could get on the market. That statement isn't valid. I can't say anything about looks, it is a bland design, but also simplistic, I like it personally.

Anyway, I'd consider getting my T61p painted from that site if it didn't cost so much, they have some pretty cool colors. :)

I dont think Thinkpads were ever meant to be "stylish", either by design or for aftermarket modding, aint nuthin gonna make these bricks trendy.

the colorwarepc.com is pretty cool. Id love the steel color, but im not too crazy about having to send in my laptop and then pay 300 bucks to get the color changed on a laptop I paid less than a 1000 for. Haha. Anyone know of a good more economical alternative to changing the color of my T61 Thinkpad?

the only other alternative would be to either paint it yourself or put a sticker over it. i think quality paint goes a long way.

They are business machines first and foremost. I'm actually a student, I picked up my T61p because the build quality and the proven strength of the system put to the test by business travelers always on the go. While they aren't flashy, I have a T7300, 2 gigs of ram, Quadro FX 570m, AGN, DVD burner.... it's no slouch.

Yep... it looks like a brick. It's built as tough as a brick too. That's why I love mine :D

    My Priorities:
    1.Performance
    2.Build Quality
    3.Looks

(1 and 2 are almost equally important. While 3. looks is very unimportant to me. I wanted a tool. Not a toy to impress people.)

Mirror Stallen's sentiments and looks come 3rd but in my case I actually like the no nonsense look of the Thinkpad. If looks were #1 priority I'd still go for the Thinkpad. It's either that or flashy neon green lights or orange trim eww, or two tone keyboard and palmrests. How those are considered stylish is beyond me but I guess that's why there's vannila and chocolate!

Forget about stickers.. I would paint it. That's the only way to get a high quality finish. It's a lot of work but if you do it properly you'll be more than satisfied.
If you need any help let me know or get it done by professionals: www.laptopstudio.co.uk

thinkpad is the most ugliest laptop I've ever seen, yet the most reliable. I love the quality but hate the black color so bad. Just wish they had more color, Thinkpad will sell 3,4 times it does now, for sureee .....

I don't know where you are getting this 'ugly' thing from. thinkpad has, imo, the *best* styling of any notebook on the market. It looks like it was made do actually do something, rather than as a toy made by mattel (like the high end dells, in particular).

don't be so offense, everyone has their own taste. I believe not only me think Thinkpad is plain and tasteless in look.

Face it or not, if everyone thinks Thinkpad has the best style, there should be no other notebook competitor in the market; since everyone already buy Thinkpad already !!! Cause, it's has every best quality in it

    durable
    reliable
price competitive ( I do find Thinkpad has competitive price compare to HP and Dell, not to say lots cheaper than Sony and other brand .... )

now if I think it looks pretty I would definitely buy one without any hesitation, but I didn't think that way.

well, I'm sure not only me :D

PS. agree with you about some notebook looks like a toy like Alienware, Dell, and HP

Well, although I don't think the ThinkPad looks particularly good, it doesn't look bad either. Remember it's meant as a business laptop, meaning the looks can't be bright and "look at me". Now boutique notebooks (AW, VooDoo) looks are part of the brand, and I think those brands do it well. Now you say some of the dells look like toys, dunno about you but all laptops being the standard black/grey color scheme laptops were starting to bore me.
