So I own an ASUS N53JG and would like to upgrade it using the motherboard of an ASUS N53SN which supports Sandy Bridge CPUs and contains a much nicer GPU.

They both use the same chassis and the motherboards look nearly identical.
The ASUS N53JG uses an Intel HM55 chipset, while the N53SN uses an HM65 chipset.

Is it possible to upgrade by replacing my motherboard with the newer model's?

As something to fall back on in the case that this isn't possible I know it should be possible to upgrade using the other HM55 chipset models, which are essentially the same motherboard with a different GPU.

You can buy a nicer computer which costs less and doesn't need as much work as what you're trying to do :)

If I can get this laptop to have a high end Sandy Bridge i7 and a Nvidia Geforce 550m for ~$350 I think not.
Unless you can find a decent mid-high end laptop for around that much I think I'll stick with this.

Obviously people aren't nearly as helpful here as with the Envy upgrade thread....
