My 5920g is a year old, and so far I love it.
The only problem is that the hinges are becoming quite weak and unstable, and don't hold the monitor up to well..
is it possible to get access to the hinges and tighten them?

You might be better off posting this in the Acer forum as it isn't so much a cosmetic modification. But in my experience owning an Aspire 5672, it is very difficult to disassemble Acer notebooks without messing things up pretty good. That said, I don't have a lot of knowledge of that model, and it's completely possible that I'm wrong, but I would ask in the Acer forum.

Yes simply remove the plastic shell around the lcd, and you will see the hinges. The hinge is usually made out of a magnesium alloy. Sometimes two pieces, one which revolves around the other. The otehr type uses a standard bolt and nut.
You can tighten both types of hinges, with a wrench. Simply tighten the nut on the end of the hinge, and you will be able to tighten the hinge.
