I will be going for a new Laptop soon, don't know jack about them, but am more concerned with price than anything else. Could someone please list the following manufacturers in their order of best vs. worst.

    Acer
    HP Compaq
    Dell
    IBM
    Sony
    Toshiba

Also, could you tell me which is better; the centrino or the pentium 4 processor, I will not be using it for travelling, etc. just for keeping it on my desktop. Also is Intel's HT technology all that it's hyped up to be, or is it just a gimmick?
    Thanks in advance

Well i have a Sager computer in the Desktop replacement category which means I have like 2 hours battery life and it weighs about 9 pounds. My lappy has a 17" screen with 1440x900 resolution. I have a tv tuner, built in camera, 6 in 1 memory reader. 5 speakers with s subwoofer. I have a P4 3.2 MGH which uses lotsa power. I love my Sager. www.sagerforums.com is a forum to look at Sager. Basically the difference between the P4 and the Centrino is that the P4 is used for power and thats why the gamers lover it and the Centrino is built for portability. The centrion lappys have longer battery life and are lighter. The are perfect for the businessman that travels.

Actually most of those company aren't the manufacturers of their laptops. Most of the ODM (the manufacturers) are located in Taiwan and sell barebone systems to the (OEM's) and they add devices such as hard drives and memory and put their names on the laptops. Clevo is the ODM for Prostar, Sager and a few other companies. They also sell to companies in Europe the same way as they do in the USA.

    Heya mkdaku,

I don't know if you can really say that one company makes notebooks that are always better in all categories than another's notebooks. One company may make the most durable case, which would be important for some people, but that case might cost $400 more than a similar laptop from another company, and the cost savings might be a more valuable feature to another person.
I think in general, if you read through the different forums, especially the Notebook Manufacturers forums for each notebook maker, you'll start to get a feel for where the strengths and weaknesses of each company are.
You can post a reply with what specs you are looking for, what you want it to do, and the budget you're working with, and generally you will get replies from users who have found similar systems of good quality who had needs similar to yours.
Also you can go to the 'What should I buy FAQ' at http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3244 and that will give you further direction to carry you forward.

    Cheers,

    Stevo
