I've been looking around for a notebook for about 2 weeks now. I check all the major deal websites, the manufacturer websites, and of course this forum. There are some okay deals, but I keep hearing there were better deals just a couple weeks ago.

So I'm wondering whats the best deal you've seen for a mainstream laptop, so I can compare it to what is offered at the moment.

    Thanks.

I was able to configure XPS M1530 with everything upgraded last "great weekend sale" and used 25% off, and it came out to be $960 :D

No Blu-ray or SSD though (which I didn't want anyway)

(Edit: No I didn't buy it, waiting for a refresh)

If theres one answer to your question, it would be:

The P-6831 FX from Gateway, the edition that was solely for Best Buy.

But if you're looking for a notebook, this won't help because it was sold out very very quickly. Figured I would answer your question though.

You are going to have to shop for longer than 2 weeks if you are looking for a steller deal. You need to get used to the pricing strategy of the company, and the coupons they offer, which coupons are stackable etc. Its all about timing and patience.... ;)

Best deal is XPS with 40% off plus an additional 12% off for EPP with 3/4 year warranty. Paying by DPA gives you more off (I think another 4% off? I don't use DPA though). Another about as good is also for XPS, $799 off plus 10% off plus 12% off EPP (with possible 4% off through DPA). The first is better if you are maxing out the specs, while the second is better for lower end (less than ~$2400) models.

edit: don't hold your breath for the deal though. More common is 25% and $699 off (happening right now).
