This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I ran across two Toshiba Satellite models on clearance at Radio Shack. If you need a decent 15.4" notebook for under $500, this could be an option.

    Toshiba Satellite L45-S7423, $429.97
    1.46GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2310
    Vista Home Premium
    1GB RAM (upgrade to 2GB for under $20)
    120GB HD
    DVD SuperMulti
    Intel X3100 graphics
    b/g-Wireless

    They also have a Toshiba A205-S5804 for $499.97
    slightly different design (Onyx Blue exterior)
    1.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330
