The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Most of us who frequent NBR are pretty knowledgeable consumers when it comes to purchasing the items we need and love. However, some of our less tech savvy brethren are left at the whims of a greedy corporate marketplace. I'd like this thread to serve as a posting grounds for the most egregious of errors. To start things off -

    Asus G51VX-RX05 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6, Vista Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

Here we have a REFURBISHED laptop, shipped with the most loved OS of all Windows Vista! What other top of the line specs does it include, you ask? We've got an "HD" display of 1366 x 768 display. A whopping 320gb hard drive. A 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo processor. And le piece de resistance? a GTX 260m with 1gb of DDR3 memory.

All for the low, low price of $1,679.96 --- But act fast, as you're limited to 20 per customer. I actually paid less than this for my new sager 8 months ago.

So, what's the worst notebook deal you've seen lately?

(mods - wasn't sure where to post this. Obviously not informative enough to be in the what notebook should i buy section, but on topic enough to avoid the Off topic forum, or so i thought. Feel free to move wherever)

Did you read the customer reviews? I'm still amazed someone bought one of those a year ago for that price.
