Basically, MS are giving away free X-Boxes...

it's freexbox in the link, not freebox
-
Looks like they are trying to beat apple at their rumored upcoming Free Ipod with the purchase of a new Mac deal.
-
-
I also heard that Dell is planning on doing this same exact program as well. How much do you want to bet that Microsoft/Dell will increase the prices of their laptops/upgrades to cover the cost of the "free" 360s?
I wonder if HP will be participating in this. I just bought a HP Pavilion dv6tqe yesterday and a free 360 would be nice.
Edit: looks like HP is participating in this... I wonder if I can call HP in a few days and ask for a free 360 with my order. -
HP online sales agents are denying the existence of such a promotion. Guess the word hasn't reached em yet...
-
Well, as my first post says, it doesn't start 'til the 22nd.
-
Dell has a signup page here to get notification of the deal when it goes live:

Sweet deal if you ask me, even if you don't need or want the XBox 360 it's a $199 value and can be sold for cash. -
-
Anyone know whether or not this offer will be available through Amazon or Newegg?
-
anyone know if this can be obtained through an aafes purchase of an alienware laptop?
-
Good find!
-
This is so awesome. Wish it were available outside the States.
-
if you use a coupon with your purchase does it cancel out this deal?
-
-
Well, 'similar' offers will be available.

I wonder how you redeem your xbox? Do I walk out of Best Buy with a xbox the very moment I purchase a laptop, or do they mail it to me 4-8 weeks later? [planning on grabbing the Satellite E305]
I hope I get to bring it home the same day. -
-
@Andrew: Ah, that's disappointing. Thanks!
-
-
HP sales agents also say that the coupon isn't available until 5/26 at HP.com as opposed to 5/22.
I think Microsoft screwed up by letting HP and Dell administer the deal. It should be a rebate through Microsoft if they want this to be a competitive offer with the Mac iPod. Students are lazy, and mac makes it easy for students.
This is a classic example of MS trying to copy Apple, but not really understanding the formula. -
-
no.
But with the Mac, you walk out of the store with iPod in hand. Or if you order it, you get it with your MBP. They really make it easy for students. Granted, the MBP is waaaay more expensive so, maybe the extra money on their part makes it easier for them. -
This was posted by a Microsoft Employee on their official xbox-Win7 promo blog:
That's regarding going into a retail store and buying a laptop/desktop. -
sweet. I wish I liked Best Buy better.
-
...I wonder if my acceptance letter, FAFSA award letter, and pulling up my student portal would be enough...I don't have my ID yet...if ever.
I am going to be buying the Sony SC on Sunday as long as I can use the aforementioned items -
You don't have a student email account yet? Usually they apportion an account before you matriculate. I had my undergrad account back in '05 before the end of May...
I guess different schools do it differently.
For what its worth, I haven't got the Xbox deal, but when talking with HP reps about my elligibility...they never tell me that I need to verify student status...I even ordered with my gmail account as opposed to my .edu account. -
^
I have an edu email, but when you do a brick and mortar store I think you have to show ID... -
Are you in high school now? Use your HS ID. Have any bros or sis's in school? Use them to get the deal.
If not, ask your school when you can get your Student ID. I don't see why you can't just get it now.
I'm sure BB will still have a few xboxs on Monday. -
-
Unfortunately for Dell, it will only come in select systems that are purchased...I just confirmed with an Alienware employee. Dell has not released the specific systems however, but here's to hoping that the Alienware M14x is included =D.

Here's the press release from Best Buy:
MEDIA ADVISORY: Best Buy® Offers Students Xbox 360 With Laptop Purchase Of $699.99 And Above | Reuters
http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=244152&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1565586&highlight=
Looks like the promotion is live on Sunday May 22; whether the store employees know it or not. -
Microsoft store in san diego is already doing it and acceptance letter works if no id. SWEET!
That best buy press release says online also. Super sweet! -
I wonder if there is a way to get the xbox for those of us who already bought the m14x, in fact i bought two computers from dell in the last 3 weeks, but just missed this. They should make good on this deal for recent purchases lol
-
This deal is now live on BestBuy.com, all you have to do is add the laptop that's $699 + XBox 360 to your cart, use a .edu email domain to checkout, and it all ships for $9. If you prefer in store you have to take a student ID card.

So, no retailer will offer you credit for your recent purchases. Onlynway to get the xbox is to return and repurchase.
At HP, its quite certain that the free xbox is only available after coupon negating any other coupon like the 30% off one. Purchasing through the APP plus instant rebate plus xbox is only really a good deal for laptops between $700-$850. Past there, the 30% off is much better. That is if you can get the 30% off... Just make sure you're getting then best deal! -
Looks like Best buy are being complete tools and only allowing certain systems to add the 360 too...this is including the Blue Label laptops though in the ad it only excludes "Apple computers, prior, outlet center, refurbished, clearance, demo and open-box...XBox 360 4GB for students included with $699 and up laptop purchase."
-
Well, if you read the quote from MS in my first post, it states that the offer applies to 'students who purchase a new Windows 7-based PC.'
That kind of excludes refurb, demo, open-box etc right there.
And it definitely excludes Macs. -
Per their website the sony sc blue label (with the push2tv and kaspersky) wasn't an eligible laptop. Just walked out of best buy with new sony sc, netgear push2tv, kaspersky 1 year, and xbox 360 for $980+ tax. Life is good!
-
Does anyone know if this offer is valid for purchases in online Microsoft store? I don't have a microsoft store nearby,
-
is this only for students in US?
-
See page 1. Follow the link posted by Microsoft.
@san: yes
@phil: yes. coming to Canada and France soon -
Yup they gave emailed me a code and used it to buy a PC at the online Microsoft store. No hassle. Prices there are not marked up either.
-
For the guys question if you can still get the deal through Dell even though you bought your laptop a few weeks ago, as far as my rep has told me, I'm good to go even though I placed my order in April. Id speak to the rep you bought from and ask them if you qualify and they will most likely say you are if your within the first month. I'm just waiting for the word on what to do to get mine if either I can go to a store or if I need a code to be emailed to me to obtain my free xobx.
-
Can this be used with Lenovo computers?

Just emailed my Dell EPP rep, ordered my M18x on 5/4 and received it 5/21. I am really hopeful to get this deal
-
Stupid HP won't. -

I am not going to call Dell "honoring" this until I have one at my doorstep, but I am hopeful
I have an awesome EPP rep who has been helping me lately
