Looks like they are trying to beat apple at their rumored upcoming Free Ipod with the purchase of a new Mac deal.

I also heard that Dell is planning on doing this same exact program as well. How much do you want to bet that Microsoft/Dell will increase the prices of their laptops/upgrades to cover the cost of the "free" 360s?

I wonder if HP will be participating in this. I just bought a HP Pavilion dv6tqe yesterday and a free 360 would be nice.

Edit: looks like HP is participating in this... I wonder if I can call HP in a few days and ask for a free 360 with my order.

It could be that HP will only be doing it via their APP (Academic Purchase Program) and not all reps are aware.

Dell has a signup page here to get notification of the deal when it goes live:

Sweet deal if you ask me, even if you don't need or want the XBox 360 it's a $199 value and can be sold for cash.

It will be available in France and Canada soon as well.

It will not, it's explicitly only via HP.com, Dell.com, Microsoft Store (retail store and online) and Best Buy (not BestBuy.com).

So long as the final price is over $699 still should be no problem.

I wonder how you redeem your xbox? Do I walk out of Best Buy with a xbox the very moment I purchase a laptop, or do they mail it to me 4-8 weeks later? [planning on grabbing the Satellite E305]

I hope I get to bring it home the same day.

HP sales agents(well, those who are aware of the promotion) have repeatedly said that no coupon will be stackable with the promotion.

HP sales agents also say that the coupon isn't available until 5/26 at HP.com as opposed to 5/22.

I think Microsoft screwed up by letting HP and Dell administer the deal. It should be a rebate through Microsoft if they want this to be a competitive offer with the Mac iPod. Students are lazy, and mac makes it easy for students.

This is a classic example of MS trying to copy Apple, but not really understanding the formula.

Do you really think students would be lazy when there's a free $150+ xbox 360 involved, even if there was a little hassle?

    no.

But with the Mac, you walk out of the store with iPod in hand. Or if you order it, you get it with your MBP. They really make it easy for students. Granted, the MBP is waaaay more expensive so, maybe the extra money on their part makes it easier for them.

You don't have a student email account yet? Usually they apportion an account before you matriculate. I had my undergrad account back in '05 before the end of May...

I guess different schools do it differently.

For what its worth, I haven't got the Xbox deal, but when talking with HP reps about my elligibility...they never tell me that I need to verify student status...I even ordered with my gmail account as opposed to my .edu account.

Are you in high school now? Use your HS ID. Have any bros or sis's in school? Use them to get the deal.

If not, ask your school when you can get your Student ID. I don't see why you can't just get it now.

I'm sure BB will still have a few xboxs on Monday.

I'm going after my paralegal certification. Already have my Bachelor's from 6 years ago. I've already emailed my college when I can get my ID and have yet to hear back from them. I'm sure I can make it work. After all...BB would be getting a sale and all they care about is money money money........MONEY :D

Unfortunately for Dell, it will only come in select systems that are purchased...I just confirmed with an Alienware employee. Dell has not released the specific systems however, but here's to hoping that the Alienware M14x is included =D.

So, no retailer will offer you credit for your recent purchases. Onlynway to get the xbox is to return and repurchase.

At HP, its quite certain that the free xbox is only available after coupon negating any other coupon like the 30% off one. Purchasing through the APP plus instant rebate plus xbox is only really a good deal for laptops between $700-$850. Past there, the 30% off is much better. That is if you can get the 30% off... Just make sure you're getting then best deal!

Looks like Best buy are being complete tools and only allowing certain systems to add the 360 too...this is including the Blue Label laptops though in the ad it only excludes "Apple computers, prior, outlet center, refurbished, clearance, demo and open-box...XBox 360 4GB for students included with $699 and up laptop purchase."

Well, if you read the quote from MS in my first post, it states that the offer applies to 'students who purchase a new Windows 7-based PC.'

That kind of excludes refurb, demo, open-box etc right there.
    And it definitely excludes Macs.

Per their website the sony sc blue label (with the push2tv and kaspersky) wasn't an eligible laptop. Just walked out of best buy with new sony sc, netgear push2tv, kaspersky 1 year, and xbox 360 for $980+ tax. Life is good!

For the guys question if you can still get the deal through Dell even though you bought your laptop a few weeks ago, as far as my rep has told me, I'm good to go even though I placed my order in April. Id speak to the rep you bought from and ask them if you qualify and they will most likely say you are if your within the first month. I'm just waiting for the word on what to do to get mine if either I can go to a store or if I need a code to be emailed to me to obtain my free xobx.
