Firstly I apologize if this is in the wrong forum; if it is and someone could set me straight that would be appreciated.

Anyways, I was wondering what the risk is with ordering Open Box from Newegg. Anyone with experience?

You get someone elses returned item. 30 day newegg warranty only. Cheap stuff=recommended...motherboards, hard drives, processors, memory, video cards=no way!

Well you should still get the manufacturer warranty.

Doubtful. 99% of manufacturer warranties directly exclude open box.

This is not true. Show me in any manufacturer warranty where it says it will not honor open box. I know hard drives and most other PC components that can change hands indefinitely as long as there's no sign of neglect or abuse, they'll honor it. It follows the product, not the user, and warranted by manufacture date, or purchase date if registered. I can even sell my M11x today that still has five months warranty left on it, and it's still honored by Dell, same for my Sager. They don't care who owns it. Open box is no different.

msi warranty starts from manufactured date (from serial number), so doesn't even matter if it's stolen lol.

Right. That's what I'm saying, it's usually from manufacture date unless you register with receipt it will start from date of purchase. If you buy from a place like Newegg, they turn over product so quickly chances are the manufacture date is within a month or two of the purchase date.
