Staring this sunday, OD has a
    Compaq V2000z with:
    1. Turion ML-32
    2. 512 MB ram
    3. Dvd rom/CD-RW
    4. Wireless
    5. 200m video GPU
    6. 40 gb harddrive

for $599.99 after rebate. However, this is Built to order. I don't know if this deal has shipping charge or not. If no shipping charge, I really think this is a great deal.

Are you sure? After checking the site, all I could find was the V2555US, which was $599 after rebate, but the rebate expired yesterday. I couldn't even find where they carried the V2000z. Am I just not looking in the right place or something?

There is a half page ad I received on my newpaper subscription which is not on the website. You might to get a hardcopy of the ad or go to office depot. Here is the detail as I just went with my friend to config one:

    as quote from ad:
    512mb
    40gb hd
    dvd/cd-rw
    Wireless
200m gpu with 6 in 1 card reader

all for $599.99 after 50 hp rebate and 150 office depot rebate.

    My friend's config:
    same as above except
    256mb - minus $40
    brightview - add $25

    Shipping is $35

    total is:
    799.99 (before rebate)
    -40 (take 256mb)
    +25 (add brightview)
    +35 (Shipping)

    819.99 total before tax
    -200 reabate
    619.99 total plus tax.

you sure can get away with a new laptop with less than $700. Well, you need to add 512mb memory late for around $50 (this week bestbuy has kingston 512mb pc2700 for $44).

Just wanted to check...does anybody know of any v2000z coupons or discounts coming this weekend?...cause I will be buying mine from HP before the 'free shipping/BrightView +$50 off' discount expires on the 18th of Jan.?
There should be discounts bacuse of the holidays, that might be cheaper than HPs.

If I buy the v2000z at HP I get 1yr limited warranty which is pretty good - it has free shipping both ways and short service period for repairs/replacement.
I don't know about Staples - will I get the same HP warranty/support if bought through Staples?

    Staples = $479.94, HP = $575 (with APP discount)

Yes, but is it the HP warranty?
For instance, if I buy a Dell Laptop from another vendor than Dell, I still get the same Dell warranty, just as if I would have bought it form Dell directly.
How will it be if I buy it from Staples, will it be the same as with Dell?
Cause if Staples has their own warranty, there will probably be no "free two way shipping," and probably 1-3 months wait for repairs/replacement! Their consumer rating is between 2.5-3 out of 5, whereas HPs is 4out of 5.
Just as not to confuse anyone, I'm only talking about standard warranty you don't pay extra for.

I don't think I want to deal with Staples if something goes wrong (which it usually does for me).

I need to know before its too late!

I do not think you need to deal with staples for warranty. It is more of like sale point for HP. Same is the case even if you from Circuit City, bestbuy or someone else. It is standard manufacturer warranty( not staples warranty), unless otherwise it is explicitly mentioned that warranty is not manufacturers warranty and only sellers warranty( for example some ASUS custom built by venders are warranted by those vendors, not by ASUS. I do not think here it is the case with HP laptops we buy from staples.).

I clicked on the warranty page on the previous link i posted you and this came up

How can I obtain manufacturer's product warranty information?
To obtain warranty information for applicable products please write to:

    Product Warranty Request
    c/o Customer Service 6E
    500 Staples Drive
    Framingham, MA 01701

Please include the product name, manufacturer, model number or Staples' item number as well as your return mailing address.

So what I get from that is it would be from HP. I dont believe that staples sells their own warranty a la best buy and circuit city. (someone correct me if they know differently :) )

Or you could call a local staples I'm sure they'll tell you about the warranty info.

another option would be adding an extended 2 yr warranty from hp online for $99 but then you're at the same price point.

    Good Luck :hp:
