I saw the deal on the Compaq R3000Z over at XPbargains.com about a week ago. That rebate does not apply to this notebook and yet some people are apparently getting lucky by sending it in and actually getting a check. Shouldn't the author of this page at least mention that the price of $704 depends on a gamble on whether HP will continue to be lenient about this rebate offer? I'm disappointed. I expect complete information when it comes to matters where personal funds of this magnitude are at stake.

I think the rebate actually does. Because if you go to hp/compaq rebate site, there it posted a 100 dollar compaq rebate. Clicking on it listed various compaq models including "configured-to-order Compaq Presario notebook PCs" which this customerize model would fall under. The reason I stated this is that I try previously with the HPZV5000Z model which was also a CTO(configure-to-oder) model and I already receive my rebate from HP. It won't expired until December 1st so good luck then with the selection.

You're right. It does appear to include any CTO Presario. Thanks again. Jeez, now if we could just get a decent coupon code for these units. Thirty bucks aint cuttin' it.

Really? I read the actual rebate form. It lists about thirty models but does not include the R3000Z. On XPbargains.com there is a discussion on this and about how people are still getting the rebate. It must be due to this overarching "CTO" eligibility aspect. I'm just hesitent to buy something and expect HP to send me money that they aren't contractually obligated to send. I'll have to look closer at this CTO thing. Thanks for the response.
