Yeah, the Orochi seems to be hovering right around the $70 mark everywhere except Razer's own store, where it's still $79.99. :p

It's an excellent laptop mouse if you have Bluetooth. I got my girlfriend one for Christmas, and with my Eee 1201N netbook on the way, I'm considering picking one up for me as well :D

I've always wondered... what makes a mouse a "gaming" mouse?

another good, but different deal that I jumped in on was the Logitech MX1100 for $34 shipped (dented box). A quick review search showed several sites hailing it "the best mouse ever"

High dpi and buttons. Lots of buttons ;)

The shape of Razer mice tends to fit comfortably in the hand, and they come with extra teflon feet for use with low friction mousing surfaces. I've used every mouse under the sun and I still adore my Copperhead.

the bluetooth option, is it bad idea for FPS? I've used a Microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse before and there was a noticeable lag..not bad bad, but it def wasn't as responsive enough for gaming. I assume the BT mode for this mouse does not have any gaming bonuses in terms of speed and ms?

btw thanks OP, will consider this since I've been looking at it. prime shipping on amazon.. although I have a deathadder now, I just want to be cord free, or at least the orochi has only a 3ft cord, I'm using a turtle on my razer cord cuz it's so damn long and only use it w/ my laptop.

    *edit*
I found this regarding wireless, so how's it compare to normal BT mouse

Gaming is actually slower than anything else in terms of response time; most wired gaming mice have 1ms response, some have 2ms, most other wireless and office mice have 8ms. Normal Bluetooth comes in at 14ms. So, despite the "gaming-optimized" BT connection, the Orochi really isn't meant for gaming via Bluetooth, which is why they have the detachable USB cable, which allows it to take advantage of the 1ms response of all their full-size gaming mice. Also, the DPI in BT mode can only go up to 2,000, but wired it can do 4,000.

I just got my Orochi yesterday, and it's been just fantastic with my Asus 1201N. You really can't feel the lag in Bluetooth mode, and in wired mode it's just as powerful as any of their desktop mice, using the 4,000 DPI laser sensor found in the Lachesis. And with the included carrying pouch, it goes anywhere. For anyone looking for a portable gaming mouse, or even just a really fantastic quality laptop mouse, the Orochi is it.

took the plunge. Amazon has great return policy, very lenient so if I experience lag issues I'll return it. Also got the kabuto go with. Now I can leave my Deathadder at work or something lol for general use + my Razer Goliathus pad haha =D

Please let me know how the orochi / kabuto combo works for you. I have been eyeballing it but worry it may be too small for me -- I just need it to go to and from work, not between classes or anything so one or two moves a day is fine with me, I wonder if I might be better off with a goliathus or something.

I've had my Orochi for a little while now. I have pretty big hands (read: gorilla paws with sausage fingers), and the Orochi is extremely comfortable. It's compact, but they make perfect use of every square millimeter on that mouse. I can comfortably click all of the buttons without having to re-position my hand.

For on the go, the Orochi is a great size, it can fit into it's carrying case and is very easy to get used to. There isn't a 2-3 second lag after sleep mode I've been reading. Only thing I've noticed is after 3-4 seconds of idling, when you shake it, it takes maybe half second to catch up, more like a jumpy mouse then it's set. Wireless mode is awesome, I dont' notice the difference in 8ms at all. I have a DeathAdder and yeah there feels like a space missing from my palm to where the back of the DA usually sits but after a few MW2 gaming sessions i'm used to the size and buttons. What size mouse are you most used to? To be honest, I would love to have the Mamba if it was bluetooth rather than having a big dongle since I'm used to the DA size and buttons but this works for me.

As for the Kabuto, it is even better than I thought it would be! I have a Omega (smallest) Goliath speed pad which I love and got this just for the sake of the combo and to put it between my laptop screen but I actually like it a lot. I'm going to keep it and just use it as my main combo set and leave my other set at work =). Anyway, why I like it? It's wider which is where I use my space more than tall. Think of it as a 16:9 ratio compared to the Goliath which is more like 16:10 haha. It is wider than my Omega Goliathus but shorter going tall wise.
The cloth material is terrific, doesn't even look like cloth but feels great. I find myself touching it just cuz it feels so nice lol. When doing more precise movements it slows the mouse down noticeably more than my speed pad due to cloth material, but that's obvious when comparing one pad to the other. Something I've had to adjust to. The fact that it's so thin scared me on quality, but it's very well made. The rubber non-skid on bottom works as intended, no slippage felt yet on my tabletop. This combo cost me $90 shipped via amazon, no regrets =)

Just bought and am using the Orochi. Had amazon prime so next day air was $4.

Anyone know how to update the firmware to 1.04? The instructions are so freaking confusing.

It says. Plug in the mini usb but not to the computer. Turn it off. Press and hold the 3 buttons. Plug it into the computer and press next.......nothing.

I'm liking it so far, it works great under OSX but the buttons are configurable. Haven't had success pairing it under windows for some reason......

Also the sleep>jerky/lag issue isn't that big of a deal.

It's just as it says, start the firmware updater program, unplug the Orochi,
turn off the switch below, plug the usb cable into the mouse (not the computer),
while holding the 3 buttons plug the usb to computer and press next with another mouse .. the upgrade process runs.

That's probably why they did it like that, because the Orochi is designed for laptops, and laptops have touchpads/pointing sticks to click "Next" with. :p

Haha, yeah, it takes a bit of coordination. Like the "pat your head and rub your stomach simultaneously" thing. :p
