Yeah someone had it taken down because they didn't want the market flooded with under priced laptops. MSI laptops are being rolled out from china almost at cost pricing. This is China's way of trying to win the trade war by undercutting other brands by a large margin.

I'm just a user here, not my forum to manage. I'm sure they will see the post and figure out what to do on their own.

Someone falsely reported the listing. Looks like competition was mad that someone was unloading these units cheap and taking business away from others. Capitalsm. Expect these to be rolling out IN MASS at the cheapest price points possible. China will be looking to steal as much business away as possible and i'm totally fine giving them my money if it's going to save me 80%. Expect prices to drop substantially from companies outside of china in an effort to try and compete.

There will be another listing up soon and i'll update the post.

Y'all think this is legit? I don't see any warranty information listed in the description. I may get one and be the bait.

The link has been updated: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-18-4GT...EAPEST-ON-THE-WEB-WILL-SELL-FAST/223094060922

But this has scam written all over it. A dormant account with no seller activity in over a year and one purchase in the last year. Unrealistic pricing and taking offers at that.

Then of course the classic, "extended delivery time." common man....seriously?

At least they were smart enough to not make the classic rookie mistake and list all types of high priced items in several categories looking to hook as many as possible as quickly as possible.

Or the more inane," contact me directly!" with a jpeg of contact info and, "SUPER CHEAP PRICING!"

    But still....

Love the two stock photos. :)

I spoke with the seller. I told him about my unease about buying, requested photos. He forwarded me photos directly from the distributor. I doubled checked google and other sites to see if the photos were ripped off but they were originals. Pretty sure this is legit based on my communication with the seller and i'm 100% protected by ebay buyer protection if it isn't. I'm taking the bait and i'll update as things happen. Seller has been a member since 2005 and all positive feedback. I don't see any reason to believe it's bs. Seller just gets really good prices from a distributor and wants to flip quick for fast profits. Check alibaba when you get the chance :)

Just bought a laptop used for $1,100. The MSI would have been a bit too bulky for my needs... but whew, those specs on a new laptop for $1000? Keep us updated man.

I almost doubt it's legit, but good luck!

Yeah, I mean I definitely wish ya the best. While it's protected by ebay, I would not wanna be out $1200 for 2-3 months waiting for Ebay, when it does turn out to be a scam.

At this price point there are 3 possibilities. They're stolen product, it's a scam or it's true and there is not a major benefit to buying it now.

Ultimately If this is true, and these Alibaba suppliers are about to flood the market with 10k+ of these, then in 2-3 months the prices will hit a floor and we will be able to buy them cheap then anyway. At which point it would likely also cause a steep decline in competition's similar offerings. So for all our sake, I'm hoping you get yours a month early and we all reap the benefits too!

The only way to reap the benefits is spread the word. Competitors aren't going to lower their prices if people are unaware of how inexpensive computing technology costs to manufacture. Make the community aware that we've been getting gouged by greedmonsters and direct people to buy from the cheapest source with the greatest amount of value until the other companies decide to charge a reasonable price. I'll definitely update everyone once the laptop comes in. Hell, with prices like this, I don't see a reason to buy any other laptop since this baby will accomplish just about everything thrown at it(outside of crazy intense editing workloads-in that case you would be buying a watercooled desktop).

There are benefits to buying these gt83 models right now. They may not be available forever at this price. If you wait, you could miss out. There won't be an infinite supply by any means and i'm sure that resellers with deep pockets will do everything they can to control the supply. Get them cheap while you can, especially since it's the best bang for the buck. Hell, it's even substantially cheaper than a desktop with identically performing parts.

Congratulations, I hope it works out for you. :)

I was wondering how MSI was turning around the Upgrade Trade-in's, maybe this is how they are doing it in Aussie land? Or maybe it's a corporate dispersal? Did they say where they came from? Did you ask?

It might also be a liquidation of stock from a closed reseller?

I do note from time to time some resellers carry really old hardware as if it's newly priced, so maybe at some point they call it quits and sell them off?

Good luck, and please come back and let us know how it works out. :)

These are coming from multiple distributors and not resellers though. A reseller will never have an inventory that deep for an item like this since it has an expiration date on it and because of how the high end consumer market for devices like this work. Did MSI make too many of these and need to liquidate before the expiration date hits? Or Are they trying to take over the market? Either is entirely possible. I'll definitely keep you updated.

Edit: Aussie guy is getting these through Alibaba. Thousands in stock, multiple distributors. Anyone considering buying a new laptop might as well get one of these as they are a small fraction of the price and perform better than most laptops.

I just find it funny that he has a comment saying “don’t report me, send me a comment instead”. Maybe he’s just trying to get more sales, but if he has nothing to worry about ebay would be able to verify his story and all should be well. And any reports after that point would be dismissed.

That's because someone falsely flagged his original ebay listing and he had to put up a new one hence the comment. He is definitely trying to move more units for sure. I don't think someone needs to be investigated based on suspicions alone when they haven't done anything wrong. The seller is acquiring each unit from a major distributor in china, apparently he has been able to negotiate a good deal with them. Smart business sense on the seller. get em cheap, flip em cheap, fast turn around, and then find something new/better to invest in, rinse repeat.

Ebay made him take down the listing? Don’t they normally give them a chance to give their case?

Someone reported his listing as fraudulent, ebay automatically ripped it down. He probably contacted ebay.

He ended the listing as an error in the listing and three negatives so far and one positive (from a profile with 1 positive itself) from either a co-conspirator or he fell for the, "I can't ship it till I receive positive feedback to unlock the funds," scam. :D

Since the offers were accepted, does that mean he got the ~$19k? Does that mean ebay has to reimburse people out of their own pocket? If he moved the money fast enough of course

I'm sure ebay will lock it down fast enough and put a hold on any fund transfers due to seller inactivity.

On the rare off chance some of the funds actually made it to his account and ebay isn't able to recover them, ebay and/or the buyers credit cards will cover fraud.

it's because he was using the money to get the merchandise in the first place. A couple assholes left negative feedback even though they never gave him the chance to ship because they knew that's how it was going down. Prematurely reporting a post as fraud before the seller even had the chance to ship was pretty dirty. Seller's account has been active since 2005 and he had PERFECT feedback prior to a couple of assholes tarnishing his ebay rep. There was absolutely nothing pointing to that it was a scam.

A huge part of me thinks it could have been a US based Var/vendor who operates on this website that ruined this deal for users simply because it would possibly make it harder for them to make their sales goals if business is going elsewhere. Another part of me thinks that there is the possibility that the listing also could have been a mission to find buyers as the same exact model popped up for auction right after. I won't be surprised when a dummy account shill bids the auction above retail price and then doesn't pay :p thus wasting all that time and effort.

    I just checked and:

All negative and that bogus positive feedback have been removed
    Both listings have been removed
The account is still active and in good standing

This is standard par for the course when someone's account is hacked and used for scam sales and the original owner wrestles it back and ebay cleans up the damage done while it was compromised.

That honestly entered my mind. I thought it was pretty strange that they hadn't had any activity in a year or so and all the sudden they have a huge line on cheap machines haha.

Glad ebay sorted it out. Hopefully they were able to get their money back as well, rather than having to pay the consumers out of their pocket.
