My brother in law has the linksys WRT610N and I was over his place a couple of weeks ago and had no slowdowns using my mac with movies over the internet compared to when I use my T-Mobile WRT54G with the lastest DD-WRT firmware update MEGA,

but I am also comparing his cable to my verizon connection so I don't know how it's going to work out for me buying this WRT610N !

any idea if it'll be any speed difference ? my son the gamer with his PS3 is complaining :(

we have the cheapest verizon DSL , not sure what my Brother in law has but it's cablevision Long Island

going from dsl to cable makes a HUGE difference. and you just reffered to the 610n not the 160n TOTALLY different routers. the 610 is a really nice dual band router the 160n is a single band 2.4 only router. different ball game.

also why are you using ddwrt mega?? do you really need mega? you should either use standard nokaid (unless you use it for your xbox) or the mini it would make a difference.

also make sure you are using the most up to date ddwrt there was a flaw in the versions older than 1252x so you should update to the newest one..

comparing your dsl which if its the cheapest is prob just over 700k to his cable which normally is either 4mb or 8mb is HUGE

No; I said it correctly, I said 610N that my brother in law has, thats the one i'd like to get, anyway I just googled that nokaid and i'll give that a try if I could find the firmware for it sometimes it's hard to get these DD-WRT links , I'll also check which model router I have,

    Thanks !

I really appreciate the help !

    ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/V24_TNG/ for newest ddwrt

dont go by the link you posted check their forums for your model the link you posted does not get updated very often

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/search.php?mode=results

results for your router on the forum but it looks like that is not a great model from most feedback i have heard

i can HIGHLY RECC a refurb netgear wnr834 v2 they are awesome with ddwrt on them for about 30$ or less

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252990643&sr=1-1

or on ebay i have 7 i use at home and at our offices and love them. they never slow down or have failed me yet..

im not sure which is the latest to be used on that one thats why i suggested to read through the forum. your router says it uses a broadcom chip so you should be able to use the generic broadcom bins found (newd std, nokaid, or mini but NOT the newd2 those will brick it)

use one of these instead these are brainslayer builds and from what i am reading they tend to work better with this model

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2

click the build you want.. then choose braodcom then use the generic of the build you want..

imo if you want to spend well over 100$ get the 610n if you want to spend 34$ the netgear i linked to ROCKS with ddwrt on it.. and imo the 5ghz is a joke really anyway especially if you are using n and g... i have used many 5ghz routers and i dont even bother. the netgear i linked to set to 40mhz can do a steady 270 already and its totally stable

i saw those. problem is the builds previous to 12533 ones all had a security flaw. so you should be using a build after that..

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/comm...rt-httpd-vulnerability-milw0rmcom-report.html

you would pick either the dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin , dd-wrt.v24_nokaid_generic.bin , or the dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin unless you need voip features then you need this build dd-wrt.v24_voip_generic.bin

this is the newest build list for your router here:
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down...inSlayer-V24-preSP2/09-08-09-r12874/broadcom/

but make sure they are compatible build wise though they should be fine you can check on the forum to be sure. i can not see any reason why they would not work though

I'm done with buying Buy.com refurbs. Every single one I have ever bought has been messed up and has gone back.

well after I realized the number mix up I made I contacted buy.com and asked to cancel but they said it was to late , so they gave me options to do and one is to refuse the delivery so thats what I'm going to do, I just can't use it.

after the updated firmware on my linksys WRT54G it's still not fast enough for watching movies , I'll probably just get rid of verizon DSL and ADD on to my time warner with road runner that they have a special for 19.95 a month for the first year for twice the speed of my DSL, Truthfully I don't like given time warn any more then I pay now ( I just don't like them ) I had a problem with them once, they had the nerve to come into my apt. to check something out and cut my line in one of my rooms without talking to me about it then they left and I called them up and they said the line was not their work and it should not be hooked up and then I told them their the ones that charged me to run lines in the rooms and after a couple of days they realized they did do the work and came back to reinstall it, I'm trying to get verizon fios but there not here in this building yet .
