I've been considering a new notebook for school over a period of month now. I've compared countless of models and finally settled on a T43. What blew me away the final price paid, I was expecting much more.

    Specs: T43/X300 64MB/14.1" SXGA+ 1400x1050/256MB* RAM/Windows XP Home/Intel 2200 b-g wireless/60GB 7200rpm HD**/CDRW+- DVD ROM/Extra 9-cell battery/Extra 75watt ac-dc adapter/Asset Tag/3yr depot warranty ... with taxes came out to $1,750.

    * It is cheaper to pick up 1GB of memory on newegg for $110 than to pay $390 from IBM; or 512MB for about $55-65
** This HD is on sale at zipzoomfly for $190

I got it by calling IBM sales (see their website), they helped by applying a 15% student discount.

Anyway, I'm stoked. I think it's a good deal, compared to prices of all other laptops with similar specs.
