    Hi,

This probably wouldn't describe too many people here, BUT: if you live in NYC, J&R (jr.com for the address and stuff) has a great selection of laptops for a retail store. You can go and compare, and touch, and see who's shinier. AND, they also have a plenty of refurbs. There's a very attractive Sharp 15" for $1000 that's been hanging around the store for at least a couple of weeks, and I think it needs a good home. Awww... Also, I've noticed, you can get HP zd8000 with TV tuner/Media Center Edition for $1500. They don't seem to have refurbs online. Of course, then there's the atrocious NYC tax... Ugh.

You can pick up a $10 off any $100 J&R purchase coupon at a Zeytuna (quite expensive deli/salad bar/and a whole lot of other food stuff not far from J&R). In store only. It's not 10% or anything, but hey, it's nice out, enjoy the walk there and back... And, it's in the same building where I work!! You can also print out a discount card that's supposed to do the same thing - just search on Google for J&R Zeytuna. But I don't know if I believe that the printout will work, since it's supposed to work at a thousand places, not listed on the printout itself. Good luck! Post if this helps!

LOL, I missed this post until now, I used to live downtown and went to Zeytuna (great deserts and international food selection btw) after all the work zombies left to take advantage of their 30% off the salad and deli bar after 4 p.m. I didn't realize they have 10% off coupons for J&R, but still, I'll shop online for electronics and avoid city taxes. Plus buying something in J&R is insane, you have to like show your receipt to a million people and do some weird thing with buying it, then going and picking it up from a security guard and then hauling your goods onto the subway where people get pissed you're hitting them with your bags of goods and all the while the entire car is staring to try and see what you bought.

Amazingly I still love this city

    Abaxter,

At Zeytuna, they also have a couple bucks off the salad bar on Fridays, and people from the Goldman Sachs building across the street go there to stock up for the weekend! Potato salad at $4/lb what a bargain! By 3 o'clock there's no food.

So, you think hauling electronics on the subway is a big deal? What a wuss! I recently moved, and accidentally didn't get a big enough moving truck, so I had to go back and forth between the apts (2+ hrs away from one another) to get all my stuff. How do you like... 2 particleboard bookshelves at one time. Or a chair and a shopping cart loaded with assorted stuff another time. It was me all me, and strangers were helping me with stuff and I was like, thank you but please don't stare at me like that! Nothing to see here, moving on! :D Hey, it got the job done!

darn GS employees eating too much potato salad, somebody needs to complain. Taking a shopping cart on the subway? Probably lucky the NYPD didn't see you, that can't be legal -- but then would they even think to ban such a thing? Oh well, I accidentally drove a moving truck over the Brooklyn Bridge a couple of years ago right after 9/11 and that was totally illegal. I didn't realize this until I got to the other side and then told by the UHaul people that was the case.

Thank goodness security is so tight in this city, whew!

I don't think shopping carts can/should be illegal. I mean, if you think of it, it takes up less space than a really really fat person - you know the ones I'm talking about - that takes up 3 or 4 seats at a time and still pays a single fare! Or how about playing "music" on a cell phone speakerphone? And then DANCING to the music? Gosh! That's New York, gotta love it!
