    This is an amazing deal again. Do I get this or wait for Dell to start getting some decent sales on the XPS 1645? Does this have a backlit keyboard anyone?

    Yes, toss up between the two. I've always bought Dell and never owned an HP laptop. Just waiting for Dell to lure me in again.

    I meant, way too much time. But probably way too much too? :p

    And you're welcome, it's a pleasure. ;)

    Note, Bing Cashback does not work with HP when coupons are used. However, Ebates' cashback does.

    I'm in the same dilemma. I'm still leaning toward a 1645, partly because of the desire to get a 1080p screen. And I've yet to find any info on this having a backlit keyboard; it seems some of the HPs let you add one in, others do not.

    It is still the resolution that kills me.

    If resolution is the issue, why not go for the dv7t quad?

    now
    Appears to be this:
    • One year parts and labor coverage, including return of equipment to HP and authorized service provider options
    • One year of convenient 24 x 7, toll-free technical support in English or Spanish 1-800-652-6672 (1-800-OK Compaq)
    • One-hour e-mail assistance and real-time chat via a built-in notebook Help and Support Center
    • An easy-to-use Web site providing quick access to product diagnostics, FAQs, and top solutions
    • For software, 30-day replacement of defective application media and one year of toll-free technical assistance

    Unless, you add the warranty upgrades... :)

    Not really.

    # 14.9 in (L) x 10.12 (W) x 1.34-1.65 in. (H)
    # Weight 6.93lbs (6cell)

    vs

    * - Dimensions 15.59" (L) x 11.22" (W) x 1.31" (min H)/1.66" (max H)
    * - Weight 7.64lbs

    1/2 inch longer, 1.1 inch wider, same thickness, and about 2/3 lbs heavier. That's not really that much larger.

    Thanks for the specs showing that it is indeed larger.

    Was it really necessary to be pedantic about? :rolleyes:

    Point being, HP should be able to stick the higher resolution screen in this model. They are just limiting the choice to one size.

    Actually yes. It's really not much of an increase, and if resolution is the deal killer, the dv7t quad should definitely be up for consideration.

    Call it pedantic if you like, but the dv7t is not MUCH larger. :rolleyes: I'll give you this much though, much is relative. And more importantly, merely offering another option.

    You do make a valid point in that HP should offer higher resolutions, unfortunately, for whatever reason, they are not.

    At any rate, coupon appears to be expired. For a time, the dv7t quads were going for 899+ tax but lower specs. No bluetooth and fingerprint reader. Base price for the dv7t quad are now lower after the coupon expired. Still higher than while the coupon was still valid though. Looks like HP is fiddling with prices again. Would suggest anyone interested in buying one to have a chart/document/file recording the price variations over time. Always found that useful for myself at any rate, especially when buying from Dell or HP, as the prices can fluctuate drastically.

    As for the deal, it's good, can make it better with Ebates cashback. Bing can be somewhat unreliable with HP. As mentioned by others, resolution can be a deal-killer for some. Not much of an interest in it personally since I just bought some new toys for testing.

    Also, the extended warranty does not offer international coverage in case anyone was wondering.

    Coupon has expired, but HP's Bing Cashback is currently at 20%, if you're willing to trust Bing and HP not to screw it up again this time, you could get the machine at 999 + tax and free shipping and get back 20% on the purchase price, dropping it down to 800.

    The dv7t quad starts at a slightly higher price if you want to check it out.

    From what I read you have to purchase the product first, then they will give you the discount?

    I don't like/trust that.

    What happens is that the system registers that you have cashback, and you get an email. After 60 days or less, you get cashback deposited in your Paypal account.

    I don't think so. The bing link to HP links to HP Home directly.
