Does the cashback work when you buy from HP APP (Academic Purchase Program).

    Ok see if this works.

    Use Live Search http://search.live.com/cashback/stores

    Choose J&R for 12%

search for Dv7 and you get Dv7-1020us $1499

    1499 x 12% = $179.88

Go to http://h30014.www3.hp.com/offers/us/detail.asp?id=1459&tab=1#tab for a coupon for $50 off.

No Tax for most of us $0

    Free ground shipping $0

    so.. $1499 - $179.88 - $50 = $1269.12

    for

    # Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.00 GHz Processor
    # 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz Bus speed
    # 4096 MB DDR2 RAM Max: 8 GB
    # 320 GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    # 17.0” diagonal WXGA+ (1440 x 900) BrightView Widescreen Infinity Display
    # Built-in Webcam and Microphone
    # NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB Dedicated Graphics Memory with up to 2302MB Shared Graphics Memory
    # NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner
    # Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti Double Layer DVD±R/RW Drive
    # Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless
    # 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN
    # 5-in-1 Bridge Media Adapter: MMC, SD, MS, MS Pro, xD
    # ExpressCard 54/34 Slot
    # 3 x USB 2.0, USB2.0/eSATA, IEEE-1394, 2 x Headphone out; Microphone-in, VGA, HDMI, RJ-11 (Modem), RJ-45
    # Approximate Unit Dimensions: 15.59” (W) x 11.22” (D) x 1.66” (H)
    # Approximate Unit Weight: 7.64 Pounds

Thanks for Lakjin for bringing Live Search to our attention. I'm not 100% sure how it works but if you can get 12% off at J&R or 10% off at HP it sounds good to me.

The processor might be in question, but for ~1250 it is a really good deal with blueray. Im not sure how much a similar machine from HP.com would cost tho. Remember, there is a trick to HP: once you order, if you call them and ask them to cancel they will instantly offer to give you some discount. My friend learned this by accident. He was really gunna cancel, but the guy he talked to first offered him 50, then 100 and finally settles at an extra $150 off his previous purchase price. Also that 5% off HP coupon floating around.

And you dont "get off" money, as far as i know. I think microsoft gives you that much money back after 60 days, but im not 100% sure how. Maybe thru Paypal if you use that?

I configured the same setup at HP.com and come out around $1639. Of course then you can take off 10% and then another 5% with the coupon but still a couple hundred more.

No the money isn't instant savings but as long as it comes back it's all good.

New coupon at HP for $400 off $1299+ most laptops including the Dv7 and Dv5's

wish they had this the other weekend when my state had a tax free weekend. I would have saved $70+ on taxes.
