I've never used one of the deals listed in this forum, but have come close. However, I think this forum is a great resource and so I'd like to share a POSSIBLE way that MAY(or may not) save some money on a new Latitude. Try one of the Dell Small Business coupons(30%) on ebay. Warning: It worked for me, but YMMV. Also, they are not stackable and these seem to expire March 19.

I ended up with this and think I did well. I priced a similarly configured T61 and it came to $1,267 BEFORE tax:

I will give you my dell small business coupon for free

    77CP5N3ZGS$11$

it claims its randomly 20 25 or 30% off. Whoever uses it post here what percent off it is.

I suppose if people sell them on ebay I could start selling them. However I feel this is dishonest really because you can just sign up for the mailing list and get your own. I get 3 of these things a month at least Im sure.

edit the small print says its usable 5 times so go for it.

Here is my last coupon (25%):

    71SSM479F7DXVR

BTW, it expires Wednesday March 19th, and is valid for Vostro's, Latitudes, and Precision Mobile Workstations. It drops the price of a M6300 w/3600M (8800GTX Workstation card) down to about 2000, which is a pretty decent deal IMO.

just a quick tip. if anyones deciding lenovo or latitude i recommend you price check both this and the lenovo deals because i was able to price a thinkpad r61 for $160 less than same spec d630; granted the r61 is NOT a t61(still $80 less also BTW). but i also know latitudes come with 3 yr warrenty instead of 1 like lenovo. just a thought

I returned a T61 a couple months ago due to a poor screen(washed out/terrible vertical viewing angle). Lenovo was difficult to deal with. They charged me a 15% restocking fee. I even talked to someone who claimed to be in upper management in Lenovo and was treated poorly by them.

I know these situations can and do occur at any company. I was even thinking of giving Lenovo a second chance due to the discounts they have going all the time. The 30% off swayed me to try Dell this time. I could have tried another T61 for around the same price but Dell's guaranteed return policy also swayed me. I didn't want to get stuck with another lemon and have to pay 15% to return it. I already know I'll miss the pointing stick on the Thinkpad. I've tried the D630 trackpoint and it just isn't the same. Hopefully this is something I can get used to. Other than that, I think I'll be happy with the Dell. It feels a lot sturdier with it's magnesium shell than the plastic casing on the T61. Yes, the T61 has an internal roll cage that might be superior. But the palmrest on my T61 creaked whereas the D630 is solid.

The D630 I purchased above also comes with a 3 yr on-site next business day warranty. Add this to a R61 or T61 and the price goes up considerably. Even with my Mastercard discount(go to Priceless on MC's website & search Lenovo) stacked with a coupon the D630 with 30% off was still $100 less than than the T61. Price comparisons are not really accurate unless you compare sytems with the exact same specs and warranty. That said, the T61 and D630 are priced pretty similarly in general. The different warranty options and coupon offerings make up most of the difference. Also, the R61 is a fine system and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

If someone had given me a 30% off coupon it would have helped. It's nice that people are offering their coupons. I get these from Dell too. Just very rarely and only for 20% off. I figured why not get the 30% off, that's better than the 20%(which is useless most of the time because dell normally has an auto discount that's about or even more than 20%) or 25%. As far as buying coupons on ebay I think it's a matter of supply and demand. Dell puts out a lot of these 20% and 25% off coupons in their mystery drawings but probably fewer 30% ones. You can buy an Inspiron for 30% off so why not a Latitude? Dell is making money, ebay is making money, I'm saving money- works for me.

Yours is a 25% coupon. I personally think the people who sell the coupons are ripping people off, so I always try to share the ones I get, and make people aware of them.
