You've got nothing to worry about, you just got an AWESOME DEAL! If you could build a new one to these specs, the lowest price would be about $1,219. So, you saved at least $370 (30%) by purchasing from the Outlet.

From the moment you open the box, you'll never know that it isn't a system you configured and ordered from the regular Dell site! Only your wallet will know the truth! :D

FYI, my Studio 15 was priced at $959 with specs very similar to this one. The main difference is that mine has the WXGA+ LED display ($125 option when new), so that's one reason it was priced a little higher.

    Midnight Blue
    2.5GHz Intel T9300
    Vista Home Premium
    3GB RAM
    250GB HD
256mb ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3450
    DVD RW
    DELL 1397-G wireless
    DELL Bluetooth Module
    Backlit Keyboard
    Fingerprint Reader
    Previously Ordered New
    PLUS 36-months McAfee Security pre-installed

It was priced at $959 and I had a 20% coupon at the time, so I only paid $767.20 plus tax/shipping for mine!

Just enjoy your new one knowing that you got one of the best deals around! That is a LOT of computer for $849! :D

One more thing, it looks like your Studio has the same DELL 1397-G wireless adapter that mine came with. If you plan to upgrade to N-wireless, it's very simple to switch out the cards in the Studio 15. I bought a "refurb" DELL 1510 N wireless adapter for $35, but a new one is $79 from Dell.

    Just FYI.

Yeah I was planning to buy a DV5T. The spec would have been a lot lower for this price.
This will be my first laptop.
Would it be able to run Photoshop smoothly?
What would be the difference between Wireless G and N, would N be a lot faster?
Just wondering, my estimated shipping date would be on 11/07, why would it take that long, aren't "previously new" already built?
Once again, thank you for sharing this deal, I would have never checked out the Dell outlet and get this amazing deal.
I was gonna wait till Black Friday, but I think this deal would be a lot better than what I could get on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Your Studio 15 has the 2.5GHz Intel T9300 processor, which is one of the fastest mobile processors available! It will plow through as many Photoshop tasks as you can throw at it without breaking a sweat! :D

Wireless-N has a maximum speed of more than double Wireless-G's maximum. You need a N-Router in addition to an N-capable wireless adapter in your laptop. You might want to save the following bookmarks for future reference, it took me forever to finally track these down......

Dell Wireless 1510-N Adapter Card for Studio 15- http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Networking_Communication/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=430-3167&mfgpid=197160&chassisid=8477#Overview

Dell Wireless 1510-N Card (Refurbished)- http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Networking_Communication/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=PW934&mfgpid=197160&chassisid=8477

A shipping date of 11/7 from the Outlet is UNACCEPTABLE! Usually, they ship an item the day after the order is placed or the following day, at the latest. I ordered my Studio 15 on a Monday around 11am EST and I got an email late Tuesday showing it would ship out on Thursday....I called them that Tuesday night to inquire. I was pleasant, but firm, and wanted an explanation why it took so long to ship a laptop that was already boxed and ready to go!? They ended up rushing it out on Wednesday morning and I got it by noon on Friday.

The point of my story- CALL THEM! Go to the Outlet website and click on Purchase Help tab at the top of the page. You should find a number to call there. Tell them that you expect it to ship out within 48 hours of placing your order! Ask the DIRECTLY and specifically why it will take 10 days to ship a laptop that is already built and boxed!?

I just checked and a custom-configured Studio 15 at the regular Dell site is showing a ship date of 11/4/08! They'd have to build it and can still ship it in one week from today....they can get one already built out a lot faster, I'm sure!

Let me know how it works out for you...and post when you receive your laptop, too....I'm anxious to hear what you think!

One final thing I wanted to share- A few months back, I ordered a new HP dv7t. It was over $1,600 but I had a 30% off coupon code, so the total ended up at about $1150 plus tax. I waited almost three weeks for it to arrive, then I used it for four days and ended up sending it back for a refund! The fan was very loud and ran constantly. Despite the always-running fan, the surface to the left of the touchpad was always uncomfortably HOT to the touch. I was very concerned that the excessive heat would diminish long-term reliability. And that fan really worked my nerves! The chrome finish was a magnet to oily-looking smudges and fingerprints, too....I didn't realize how much I'd love the matte color finish on the Studio 15!

I called them up and got a shipping email an hour later. Will be receiving it no later than Wednesday next week. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't think I'll be needing Wireless-N though, as I won't be doing any data transfer from my computer to another computer. Just plain internet browsing.

I can't wait to get my hands on it.

    Hello allfiredup,
I have finally received my Studio 15.
    First impression.. this is heavy!
Looked more into it, and it is AWESOME!!!
I've been playing with it for a few hours and its fast and it looks great.
Aside from being heavier than some laptops I've tried before.. this is a sweet laptop.
I've never had a Dell before, always had HP, and all I can say is.. I don't see much difference (which is a good thing as I liked HP).
Weird thing is.. the box says Inspiron, but everything inside are for Studio.
Again, thanks for the heads up about this deal!!

I am now looking for a mouse. Know any good laser mouse?

Glad to hear that all is well so far!

It may seem a bit heavy, but it's less than .5 pounds heavier than the DELL XPS M1530. The weight is almost identical to the HP dv5t, too. The average for 15.4" models is just over 6 pounds, if I'm not mistaken. The Studio 15 starts at 6.1 pounds.

Laser mouse- I'm partial to the Microsoft Notebook Laser Mouse 7000. Retail price is $49.99, but I've never paid more than $29.99 for it. I tend to wear them out in a little less than a year, so I'm on my third one in about 30 months. Newegg has is for $31.99 if you're interested- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105237

Again, glad to hear you're enjoying your Studio 15...I've had mine for a few months and stilling lovin' it!

The ATI HD 3450 isn't the best for more recent, GPU-intensive games. The HD 3650, which is the upgrade offered in the Studio 17, is a significantly better performer in that respect. Dell probably didn't offer the HD 3650 on the Studio 15 to avoid cannibalizing any XPS M1530 sales....that's my theory, at least.

Just for comparison sake, here are the 3DMark05 and 3DMark06 scores for both the HD 3450 and HD 3650-

    3DMark05- 3783 (HD 3450), 7388 (HD 3650)
    3DMark06- 1912 (HD 3450), 3476 (HD 3650)

Relative to nVIDIA graphics cards, the ATI HD 3450 falls in between the nVIDIA 9200M GS and 9300M GS (in terms of performance). The ATI HD 3650 falls roughly between the nVIDIA 9500M GS and 9600M GS.

i agree with that reason, i also believe the HD3650 would perform better with the higher resolution screens of the Studio 17 in playing games or HD movies. I cannot imagine putting an HD3450 in a Studio 17
