Just wanted to let fellow NBR Alienware owners know that I just ordered the Killer WirelessN-1103 for $51.02 total ($41.61 + $9.41 S/H) today from AVA Direct and its in stock.

    Killer WirelessN-1103 from AVA Direct

I waited for months to buy this card and I believe now is the time to buy! Hopefully this helps other people out there who have been waiting to get in on some killer action!

And here is an IN DEPTH review of the Killer WirelessN-1103 card from Toms Hardware thanks to fellow NBR contributor "bigtonyman" for the find

P.S. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section

How long is this good for? I've been waiting for a good price on this for a while now! :D

I just ordered mine! It's odd though, according to their info, it says they accept PayPal but I couldn't figure out how to do it. And for store pick up (I couldn't find a store location either) they charged tax, but with shipping there was no tax....

And shipping depends on location because my total was $51.33

Anyway, thank you so much for posting this! You deserve ten thousand rep points for this!

Wow. I might as well pick one up for this cheap. I'm sure I can make my money back if it doesn't work with my laptop or I just don't use it. Thanks for review link too. Seems the Killer excels at 5.0GHz and longer range, plus lower and consistent ping. Wonder how well this will work with a two antenna setup.

Based on my experience with the Killer 1102 (two antenna version of this card), it only happens when you're not using Bigfoot's buggy, bloated software. Incidentally it's supposed to be the software that makes this card "tick." However, I had much better luck simply using generic Atheros drivers, which gave me a solid, stable connection.

Yeah I heard their software is buggy, but it's been a while since I really investigated and assumed it's improved, but maybe a bad assumption. Although after making some adjustments to my router and AP I can get decent throughput using my crappy RALink and Broadcom cards. But my Access Point has 5.0GHz capability and would really like to make use of it. Especially in summer time when I'm outside a lot in my back yard.

And just noticed $50 with shipping...

I'm not sure but it seems this is there normal price, but they have over 800 (5) star ratings.

Yes it will work in your m17xr2, you might need a minipci extender though like this one here: Half to full mini PCie extender

Hmm, I always get my Killer 1103 cheaper than this, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to refer a reseller.

But nevertheless, this is a good price on the web.

Cheaper is always better, but I guess being a moderator doesn't allow you to post the link? Maybe you could give us some "choice" words to google?

It will function perfectly in a M17x R2 and you don't need any extender.

I got mine the other day and it just came with the card. I thought it would have instructions or software or something, but no, just the card....

And installing has been a real PITA! It's not the card's fault, but stupid Dell used loctite on the screws and I've stripped 3 screws so far, 2 on the keyboard and the one holding down the wireless card. Hopefully the awesomeness of this card will make up for the trouble I've been through.

Well it would be a good deal if they worked as promised.

Received mine last week, replacing my Intel 5300N.

The 2.4GHz performance has good receiver sensitivity, but using Passmark Advanced Network test - the TCP performance is bested by the Intel, by a few Mb/s, and my two access points running in the 5GHz spectrum can take at least 10mins to connect to after most OS boots.

Look at the attached graph, and you'll see my two access points as the two strongest signals on the graph. I have the only 5GHz traffic in the area. All other signals are 2.4GHz. At 20:51, you can see it finally auto-connected, and then the signal is steady. Previous to this, I could not 'see' the APs from Windows. And this was at least 10mins after boot. At this point I can swap APs as I please, but for AGES, I have no network connectivity at all.

The good thing I can say about them is that their UDP performance is better than the Intel 5300N, which will help online gaming, which I guess is the intended market. But really I don't see how the Intel NIC is bettered in anyway such as they describe for the 6300N on Tomshardware. Not at all.

This is just for your info.

I have a HNC in Radio & Radar Engineering, and a CCNA in networking (and working on CCIE), so I think my fault-finding and testing has been exhaustive. Not a happy camper.

    Ticket opened on manufacturers website.

ErikO, would you be able to perform the same tests using generic drivers provided by Atheros, the company who makes the Bigfoot's hardware? Go to this page and scroll down to the bottom to the section labeled "AR5001X, AR5002X, AR5002G, AR5004X, AR5004G, AR5004A , AR5005G, AR5005GS, AR5006X, AR5006XS, AR5006EXS, AR5006EX, AR5006EGS, AR5006EG, AR5006GS, AR5006GS, AR5006G, AR5006 AR5007/AR5008 /AR9xxx/AR2427" and get the appropriate driver.

I'd like to know if this is a problem with the Bigfoot software rather than the hardware itself. Thanks.

Hi there... indeed I tried the following driver: atheros_v9.2.0.105, was the file-name.

Using this driver, I saw absolutely no 5GHz channels whatsoever. I did this following my exhaustive search through the net, and discovered some Alienware users were using the 'Osprey' driver, and happy with it, and this is exactly the name it was installed as using this driver.

I was hoping this would be solution, and thus allowing me to avoid submitting a ticket to the manufacturer, but alas no.

See my 3 antenna setup on posts 380 and 381: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/439463-acer-aspire-8942g-core-i7-owners-lounge-38.html

    Hope this helps someone...

To answer your last question, I do think this is a driver-issue, and not a hardware issue.

Under Linux, it seemed rather stable, and I believe it is being recognized as an Atheros device (but don't quote me on that), rather than a Bigfoot device, as it is under Windows.

Are we allowed to purchase this and install in another notebook besides Alienware or is it proprietary to work only with Alienware?

I'd be interested in purchasing one if someone can answer this question for me. Thanks!

    Of course! :)
    It's not proprietary to alienware.

Well Bigfoot confirmed it was a genuine card, I sent them all the details they requested, but they can't see the issue. They have said my install pics are good, and have suggested it may be a faulty card, but it is fine under Linux, and I noted with interest Dell removed it as an install option from the M18x R2, that I was about to order.

So there you have it, they don't know.
