That is definitely not a bad price on a pretty powerful laptop.

Eluktronics had a P650RS at 1499, but it's gone now, so yeah this is probably the best non-instore deal I've seen.

It looks like HP dropped the price to $1499 on this model until December 3rd. Not bad, given the specifications. HP also has a customizable version, but the price is not as good as the ready to ship version. Best Buy also has a version of this with the GTX 1060 and FHD GSync panel. Its currently priced at $1349 but was $1199 on Black Friday. I wish HP sold it with a GTX 1070 + FHD option, similar to what the configuration was that Notebookcheck reviewed.

Nice observation @win32asmguy - I updated the thread title to reflect. $1,500 for a loaded GTX 1070 notebook ...if there was ever a time for my notebook to break, it'd be now.

Agreed, thats a great price but how is performance and cooling? The 1070 is quite a bit to cool, is the HP got a good enough cooling system to do so?

When I had one to test, my GPU-Z log indicated the GTX 1070 didn't breach 80 degrees C. The outside of the notebook also remained cool or lukewarm to the touch at most.

Just wanted to mention temperature here. I was pleasantly surprised running Furmark last night @ 4k 8x MSAA. The 1070 topped out at 73 degrees Celsius, and eventually evened out at 69-70 after half an hour. This was sitting on a hardwood surface with no elevation in the back. This is compared to the Asus ROG GL502VS I had (I do not recommend it, for various reasons) that was hitting 85+.

God don't run furmark.. Its a power virus and will kill your GPU... If you want to run a benchmark, use Heaven or 3D Mark...

It is the best thing around.

Pushes your GPU like no other, so you know what temp ceiling you can hit if your PC ever catches fire, otherwise, don't expect those temps lol

When your GPU burns out, dont go crying...

Its literally a total GPU killer, good reason why Prema and NVIDIA throttle GPUs when Furmark is running...

Like I said, Heavens and 3D Mark are much better and representative benchmarks..

You can burn out your GPUs but don't make others do so too..

I know Furmark pushes the GPU beyond real-life gaming boundaries, but I have not heard about anyone having issues with their GPU tho.

With that said, it kinda makes sense.. so I am taking your word for it :D

Furmark puts stress on the GPU that is in no way close to real life scenarios! @Papusan

How can i fry my video card?

Can FurMark kill your GPU ? Actually, yes

Can't boot after stress test - GPU fried?

Is FurMark supposed to turn your gpu into a cooking surface?

    will furmark kill my gpu??

    Okay. I belive you guys.

But going to play a pain in the ass and say that everything I found about Furmark and GPU related issue, are all dated from 13, in rare cases 14, most are even from way back pre 10, 09 ages.

    Hasn't it gotten better?

    This can be beneficial...sometimes.

I had a desktop at the office that was acting up a couple years ago, and we suspected the GPU was on its last legs. I loaded up furmark and it promptly died after a few minutes (long before crazy temperatures).

After replacing the GPU it's been going strong ever since, so I'm pretty confident the GPU was on it's way out before furmark came into the picture.

I disagree. For example, every time I played Crysis 1 or C&C Tiberium Wars my CPU and GPU were stressed so much, that temperatures and fan speed were the same as when running Furmark. And if the computer did an emergency shutdown (due to too much heat), it did it both on Furmark and Crysis. If it got "too hot" in Furmarking, it also got too during gaming.
Likewise when I did a repaste and it stayed "cool" - fans and temperature were alike, whether in Furmarking or gaming.

I have read that "in no way close to real life scenarios" countless times (also on notebookcheck.com), but simply can't agree on that out of my experiences. And the mentioned games are old ones... it's not that games have magically become less demanding since then - in contrary. If a GPU is fried because of furmark, it will most likely be fried by any graphically demanding game.

Anyone added an hdd? HP is out of stock on the cable (862964-001) & brackets (911227-001). Looking for a 3rd party supplier (and someone suggested there may be a kit with a different part #). Appreciate any suggestions.

Most drivers and/or firmware throttle the GPU now when it detects Furmark, so it may likely not be an issue, but if that's the case, there's no point in running it then, is there?
