Best price I've seen so far on a SF-1200 120gb SSD
I've had one for a few months and in an ultra-portable, I saw a considerable increase in battery life over a 500gb @ 7200rpm HDD or even a Samsung PM800 128gb SSD. First batch were plagued with BSOD but from my experience, the problem has been fixed since the latest firmware update. I'd grab 3 more if the rebate wasn't limited to one per household  :p

    $204.99 - $40 rebate card = $164.99 + $2.99 shipping

Getting closer and closer to the fabled $1.00 per GB mark!

I dont know how much I would want a SF drive though and I just hate rebates. I always seem to not get mine for some reason.

Intel had there 120GB for like $5.00 more a few days ago with the tried and true Intel controller.

at this rate, we'll probably get there next year! But I'm an impatient and < $1.50/gb is good enough!

I hear ya... I would gladly pay $180-190 without rebate.

FYI... on my first Corsair F120, there was a MIR offer and Corsair had an option to expedite the rebate processing for a $4 fee. I got my rebate card in about 2 weeks, if memory serves me right. Kinda BS that they charge a fee, but well worth it to not have to wait 3-4 months.

I'd love to try an Intel, but from what I've read... it isn't too great with power consumption (2-3x more than a SF-1200 SSD). For my ultra-portables, power consumption is a major factor in deciding to purchase an SSD.

Yeah, I bought two kingston's and an OCZ at the same time. I got my Kingston rebates a couple weeks ago, but have yet to get my OCZ. I'm going to call and complain soon, just have to dig out my info. I followed their rebate procedure to a "T", so there better not be any issue.

edit: I just checked the website. It says everything was approved 10/12/10. So it's been 7 weeks since approval, 9 weeks since they received it, and haven't heard anything yet. Just popped an email to them asking them what's up. It's a $20 rebate. Not sure if I'll buy another OCZ on rebate again if it takes this long.

Although I'd still rather buy an Intel for their reliability, but most importantly for their power consumption. It took my netbook power useage from 4 hours with a hard drive to over 5 hours with the Intel SSD! In general my experience with the Intel has been best, and I've got an OCZ Vertex 2 and Kingston V-series.

I really, really want an F120 but the MIR kills the deal. I never got the rebate for the last MIR I sent in on a Corsair product . . . it's a sleazy way to advertise lower prices.

Still, $205 for the drive is a good price.

Yeah i have been screwed a few times in the past from Mail in Rebates ... They should have an option to handle it all online including scanning in the UPC from the box and the receipt etc..

Yeah, that's an excellent suggestion! Now I wish they followed it. :)

Well they WANT the UPC so you can't "scam" another rebate. Otherwise, everything else could be electronic. If it were a newegg rebate, then they could easily do it electronically because they'd have everything on file. But since it's an OEM, they need the physcial proof.

Plus a lot more people would fill them out if they were done online. I bet a lot of people don't even bother or wind up forgetting when they have to mail it in.

Is there some other factor that I'm missing? Because according to Anandtech, the Intel doesn't seem to do much better than a Seagate XT HDD and it definitely loses out to the SF SSDs.

    does decent at idle...

3rd worst SSD... almost 3 times higher than Corsair and about on par with Seagate
    [IMG]

2nd worst overall... even worse than Seagate's hybrid mechanical HDD and over 2 times higher than Corsair

According to Tom's Hardware it's only 0.06W idle.

Plus I've personally tried a Kingston SNV425 64GB, Intel 40GB, and Vertex 2 60GB, and in my netbook, and Intel by far offered the best gain. Went from about 4 hours with hard drive to well over 5 hours with Intel 80GB. Keep in mind that for most users, SSD is "idle" for 90% of the time. That's the value most people should be interested in, unless the do a lot of video streaming or file transfers on battery.

I can also guarantee that the X25M does not draw 3W when active. I've measured power draws and at worst my power draw from the wall was +2W with a taxed X25M, and take into account the inefficiencies of the PSU, not to mention the rest of the system hardware, it can't be drawing more than 1.5W at worst.

The Kingston SNV425 on the other hand was as bad as a hard drive if not worse.

In my case its more like I forget that I had mailed it in.

Many rebates I got in the past came soo late that when I got them I forgot I even had sent for them (4+ months) and since there is no ETA or due date to get them I think that there are many rebates I never got and just forgot about them because I lose track.

There are also a few that got turned down for a dumb reason or another.

The result for me as a customer is hating rebates and not depending on them for a deal.

    huh... interesting
kind of a bummer because I've ignored the Intel based on the Anandtech reviews. Well... before the Intel 120gb, I couldn't find a 160gb for less than $2.00/gb anyway. There's always deals for SF SSDs for less than $2.00/gb. Maybe when the Intel G3 is released, I'll give them another look.
Regardless, I'm happy with my Corsair and can say I experienced considerable improvements with the battery life in my HP TM2. With a Hitachi 7k500, I would get a max of 4.5 hours. With a Samsung PM800, I could get a max of 5-5.5 hours. With a Corsair F120, I could get a max of 6+ hours.

Yeah and this is why if the price before the rebate is not sweet enough then i am not interested at all as well..

Rebates are to much of a lottery and i have had some similar problems like being rejected for stupid things so the energy put into filling out a form, cutting a UPC and then wasting a stamp was all for naught in the end..
