I don't want to start a thread flaming Vista, but I have my reasons for requiring that my next notebook be XP Pro.

I can custom order one thru Dell. Are there any special bargains or options out there remaining for an "old" operating system computer??

No, because I don't think manufacturers don't consider XP an "old", "bargain", or "closeout" option. In the case of the Dell Vostro, it's a no-cost option (Home) or an upgrade (Pro). In the case of of the ThinkPad R61 & T61, XP Pro is an upgrade. Fo HP's business 8000-series, I believe XP Pro is a no-cost option.

For "consumer" notebooks with XP, I think you'd be looking at buying something like a Sager, Compal, or their rebranded cousins from one of the well-regarded smaller resellers frequently mentioned here on the forums. That, or checking into which companies offer XP driver suites (sometimes have to hunt internationally) on their support pages and installing your own copy over a Vista machine. Fujitsu comes to mind with a few of their new models still supporting this option.

Hope that helps...or is correct :p

Im planning on getting a Vostro 1500 which has the XP at no cost. The other option is to te a HPdv6700t with Vista, and format de HD.

I think with Vista business and Ultimate you can downgrade to XP Pro.
