    Ultra portable+gaming ....lol

with bing cashback @ overstock.com you can get 1 @ $834 (as of Dec 2nd almost mid-night) yes that may not sound too good ~~ but here is the catch ~ Asus offer $100 rebate for this model. So you can get it @ 734 after rebate. If you prefer ebay, .excaliberpc do sell them for $925 buy it now (so with bing cashback @ 8% after 2nd ....which is around $ 851 free shipping)

Here are the models that are offering $100 rebate
    K40IN-C2 884840498971 $100
    K40IJ-D2 884840498957 $100
    K40IJ-E1B 884840516422 $100
    K50IJ-D2 884840498964 $100
    K50IJ-F1B 884840516439 $100
    N81Vp-D2 884840512752 $100
    X83Vp-A1 884840507680 $100
So after rebate you get $734/ $751.....

Maybe you will say newegg too, but newegg listing the A1 as 999.99 and for some reason newegg's bing cash-back is still not back yet. Also newegg offer an X1 model too which is @ 799.99 but according to the rebate..there is no $100 ....and you get T6600 instead of P8700 .....

I picked mine up right before the 2nd so I still had the 10% cash-back so it was 925*0.9 = $832.5 now just need to wait for it to show up and get the $100 rebate.....

    woohoo it's in already~~

DON'T FORGET TO GET THE EXTRA 5% OFF BY USING OVERSTOCK'S O-CLUB.

You can use this with bing's cashback!!!! This is verified. You can even ask overstock's salespeople if you are worried.

Little tip. The same machine can be found at buy.com's ebay site @ 850

meaning 850-8%. Rebate might work as well.

I ordered on ebay from Excaliber PC , which I used to ship back in 2005 from them with my desktop parts , and they are Asus US Resellers, so the receipt is their store receipt showing the full price of $915 . Yeah I ordered one on $925 , then ordered 1 again when it was 15% cash-back @ ebay , and they dropped their price to $915. Then I contacted them via email to cancel my 1st order . They did so with just 1 email , so right now my X83 costed me $915 initially without the 15% cashback ( yeah I missed the 20% day..damn) .

So right now my cost shall be $915*0.85 = 777.75 , then wait for the $100 rebate which shall cut it down to 677.75, but since I am in APO ...it cost me $39 shipping....so total out $716.75....

Here is the link for the ebay item ( it went back up to $925 again.)
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ASUS-X83Vp-A1-1...iewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item2a03374b3b

And the guy who helped me by email was Steven W. He was really helpful .

So they do qualify for rebate? So with your experience, it came with the company receipt?

"Please note: California Residents must add 9.75% sales tax." NNOOOOO =(

Ouch ...I am sure it's their company receipt since they are Asus us reseller . And the price won't reflect the price you paid after bing-cash back. We will see , I am kinda exceited now . What you can do legally is just ship it to you relatives address that is not in CA and pick it up ? And they also advertise in the ebay listing there is $100 rebate.

Hmm wow thanks. If I was to purchase it off ebay, would the warranty still be eligible? Cause I read somewhere that it Asus sometimes doesn't honor the warranty...

Also, why isn't there any talk around the forums about the n81vp-d2? I'm considering that over the x83...

wow ..that is a nice laptop ...faster processor ...but it;s the screen i guess ...1366x768 vs 1280 X 800 . I think I would rather 16:10 (just personal prefence.) Consider it's 999 @ lowest .... with 8% still 919 -100 = 819 right now ... yeah I will pass . I am sure they will honor it new, they just don't honor the 2nd hand ones I guess.

Sorry to go off topic, but whats the difference (cons and pros) of 1366x768 vs 1280 X 800? Not only is it a faster processor, faster HD and stuff.

Well I was going to list it but can't find what screen X83 have ..I guess it's a CCFL ..anyway

    P8700 2.53g 3MB L2 25W
    T9600 2.8G 6MB L2 35W

    500G 5.4K
    320G 7.2K

The other ones are almost identical but most like different mother board chipsets since both CPU use different slots . I don't think you will see too much of a perforemce increase for the N81VP-A1 (but yes most likely they will run faster because of the CPU) . Gaming wise .since both are 4650 1G and DDR2 -800 4G m the N81 may gain like 2--4 FPS over X83 .

Here is the screen , if it's CCFL vs LED ...then yeah no brainer N81 wins (I can't find X83 list as a product in Asus global or Asus USA , so no way to see if it's CCFL or LED ) . Also LED screens are brighter than their CCFL counter parts.

Screen resloution wise I like 16:10 because I use to it . But that is purely personal preference.

Battery life wise , because of a 25W P8700 it will last longer than the T9600 , but then again if it's a CCFL vs LED .... the LED screen saves more power than CCFL , so unless you put them side by side doing the same thing , otherwise it's hard to say.

    Hope this helps you.

How much battery life would I gain anyways? I can't seem to choose anymore, its it worth it for the d2? I mean its like $100 difference...

Not too much , at least I don't see it as much , I would say the N81 if you don't need that $100 ....... hmm by the look on the other review @ overclock.net

    http://www.overclock.net/laptops-notebook-computers/611751-asus-x83vp-a1-review.html

This screen could be a LED since it comes with N81 boxes and looks like it's a N81 frame with a redesign face and a different motherboard/CPU ..... I will get mine in 2 days , @ that time I will post some shots and a 3DV score...

Just brought this X83VP-A1, and from what I can tell and reading the already posted review of the N81VP Asus, they are pretty much the same. Processor and HDD speed maybe different, but the X83Vp-A1 is essentially a N81VP rebranded with the X83VP name. See below for those interested in a pair of reviews, including mine.

    http://www.overclock.net/laptops-notebook-computers/611751-asus-x83vp-a1-review-6.html

To further add, just tested Red Alert 3 on it running AAX4 and ultra levels, native resolution and its worked perfectly. So yeah, should play SC when it comes out. Next test is COD4 then MW2.

    There's one big difference. It's the 16:10 vs 16:9.

Seems like a great deal. I wonder how this compares to the Lenovo Y450 with the GeForce GT 240M?

lol I guess newegg complaint to Asus that the A1 model with $100 rebate price is closer to the X1 model...
