Is there any way to get a deal on the Amazon Kindle? I'm getting one for my mom for her birthday, but it seems there's no deals ever for it. I intend on buying within the next two weeks.

Hey!
As far as I know those prices have remained fairly steady.
Check on the right under "More Buying Choices". You may be able to work with something there. Or, check ebay, even Craigslist. You might find someone selling it new..perhaps cheaper

Buy her a book instead!

the sony book reader might be a better choice.

What's the advantage of the Sony book reader? I heard the Amazon has one of the clearest screens, no glare, and has a vast library plus supports pdf now.
I think for ease of use the Kindle 2 would work best for my mom. -

I'm admittedly biased, as I own 3 Kindles (Gen 1, Gen 2, DX), but I think that the Kindle has one major advantage over the other ereaders, and that is connectivity.
Rather than using wifi, the Kindle has a built-in 3G cell modem, and there are no monthly charges for usage; it's included in the purchase price. This allows you to be able to download or sync books anywhere you can get a cell signal. You don't have to rely on wifi hotspots.
There is a web browser in the Kindle, although it is VERY rudimentary. It's fine for checking email, google, etc.
Once nice thing this connectivity adds is integration with wikipedia. You can highlight a word in any book, hit a key and it does a lookup in wikipedia. That's a nice resource.
One nice feature, if you have multiple Kindles on an Amazon account is the book synchronization. In my case, I keep one Kindle at home, one at my office, and one in my car. Because of the continuous connectivity, and the fact that purchased books are tied to your Amazon account means that you can have ALL your books on up to 6 devices linked to your account. Furthermore, it will synchronize your place in each book so you don't have to remember where you were. For example, if I'm reading a book at home, and then want to continue the next day at work, when I get to work, by pressing a single button it will detect the farthest page I had read on my Kindle at home and ask me if I want to that jump to that point.
It makes reading multiple books in multiple locations a breeze.
There's no touchscreen, but the full keyboard is very easy to use, and yes the screen is VERY readable. -
Thanks for that mini review. I was heavily leaning towards the Kindle 2, I just didn't want to miss something. A good friend of mine bought a Kindle 2 for his wife and they both speak very highly of it. I haven't had the chance to see it yet though.

Target is now selling the Kindle 2 as well. You may be able to find a Target coupon or in the event you had any Target gift cards. However, depending where you live, you may have to pay tax as well so there may not be any savings over getting it direct from Amazon.

Amazon has free 1 day shipping on the Kindle right now, otherwise no real discount.

U cud sign up one of those amazon visa cards and get $30 back. Dunno how realistc that would be for ur situation but it's an option

Link: Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation) - $189 free 2nd day shipping!!
I think it is because Barnes & Noble has dropped the price on their Nook!! Wifi $149, 3G $189

SWEET! Patience is a virtue I guess. Her birthday isn't for a couple weeks, so I'm thinking to wait a week before I order because there's only a 30 day return policy. Looks like that's the regular price now.
