I have an Acer 751H-1948. Don't know about this particular model but a lot of the 751H netbooks have a hardware problem where it locks up when scrolling on websites and at other different times. There is a 75 page discussion about it on the Acer Aspire One User's Forum. The only fix that seems to work is sending it back to Acer for motherboard replacement. I have a 2 year warranty on mine so I haven't sent it back yet but will eventually.

For the few here that might own one, is real world performance that bad for everyday simultaneous internet/word processing, etc or is it tolerable?

Or is this question in the wrong place come to think of it?

My friend's desktop broke last year and he got one of these 751h and it worked fine for him, and he is in college, so I'm sure they are not that bad.

11.6" HD screen, 2GB RAM, 250GB Hard drive, and super slim/portable, i think this is a good netbook.

Mine works fine most of the time for what it is,has a nice screen, but about twice a week it will lock up when scrolling on certain web sites. If this one was manufactured recently maybe they have resolved the problem.
Ones that were manufactured around May,June etc of 2009 definenetly had some problems with some of them.Did you read the 75 page post on the Acer Aspire One User forum?

Just got my Acer Aspire One today, and turned it on, and BOOM the LCD is defective, the middle portion of the LCD is all white, creating a white rectangle, called Officemax and they are going to let me exchange it. Phew...

Comes with Vista and a 3 cell battery, enough to turn me off.

Lefix--check the manufacture date when you get your replacement. Like I said read the the Acer users forum,a lot of people had problems with Google Earth and using Skype. I don't know how long the return policy is for OfficeMax but you definetley want to find out if you have that lockup problem before it expires.
The only reason I didn't return mine when I bought it is because it cost me two hundred dollars brand new and I have 2 year warranty.Figured for that price I could put up with a few lockups after living through the age of Windows 95!!!

So what are the manufacturer dates for the problems that are eligible for replacement or warranty? Don't I automatically get an one year warranty when i receive my Acer?

I gave those manufacturing dates as a reference for when problems started appearing. My thought was that maybe they had solved the problem in any units with a RECENT manufacture date.
As with most products of any type that one buys the warranty starts from the date of purchase. I hate to keep repeating myself but if you read the forum that I posted a link to there are over 700 posts regarding this problem, many of which are quite detailed and should fully explain this problem to you if you take the time to read them.

So apparently, they ran out of stock on these guys, and they won't honor a exchange, I can ONLY do a refund, oh wells, guess I missed out on the deal...

But on the other hand, I won't have anything to worry about now...
