Thanks for catching that...the ASUS link is now corrected.

I'm tempted to buy the ASUS N80Vn-X1 at $749! It's not a bad deal at full price, but $250 off it's a STEAL! 14.1" LED, powerful GPU, decent CPU and the ASUS warranty.....this is as good as it gets, deal-wise! :D :D :D

Asus is a great deal, but the same specs can be had on the P7805u at BB for quite a bit less.

    Good post though...

Thanks for the info about the Gateway P-7805 at BEST BUY, too! The last several times I've been helping someone find a budget gaming system, BB has only had the ASUS G50Vt and Toshiba Qosmio X305. Good to see a kick-butt Gateway FX model back in their stores!

The only significant difference between the P-7805u FX and the P-7801u appears to be the display- the 7801u has a 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) display and the 7805u has a basic 17" WXGA+ (1440x900) unit.

Best Buy shows the P-7805u priced at $1,049.99 (which isn't shown as a Sale Price, but the Gateway site shows it as a Best Buy-exclusive regularly priced at $1,299.99. They also have the ASUS G50Vt-X1 priced at the same $1,049.99-

    Gateway P-7805u- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827

    ASUS G50Vt-X1- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873

The only bit of bad news appears to be that the P-7805u is currently Backordered for 1-2 weeks according to the Best Buy website. :(

I would like to purchase a laptop and say bye to my desktop and would like some thoughts on the N80Vn-X1. I would be using this for internet, word processing and HD video editing and maybe some gaming. How would this laptop fit the bill? And how many years do you think I can get from this? Thank you

ASUS makes very good quality laptops as evidenced by their Best-In-Industry Standard Warranty Coverage- 2-Year Limited Hardware Warranty AND 1-Year Accidental Damage Protection (fires, surges, drops, spills, etc).

The N80Vn-X1 is a great deal, especially with its powerful nVIDIA 9650M GT graphics card. Since you intend to use it as a desktop replacement, my only concern is that the 14.1" display might be a bit too small?

Another great deal from ASUS is a 15.4" model called the X59SR-A1. It's normally $999.99 and on sale for $799.99 at Newegg- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220459
It has much the same specs as the N80Vn-X1 except it has a 15.4" WXGA display and a less powerful, but quite decent 512mb ATI Radeon Mobilility HD 3470 graphics card. Same warranty applies.

While it's true that the specifications state a 1440x900 display, the P7805u at BB does in fact have a 1920x1200. It's a misprint by Gateway, and lots of people have confirmed that it does have the WUXGA resolution in person.

Get in on it if you can...
