The Hp parts store has the aforementioned HDD for $45.60 + Shippping + Tax
this goes for $99 at Newegg, I picked it up for $60 after shipping and tax.
Its HP parts number: 497775-001

-
wow what a steal... Ordered 2 for myself lol
-
wow ill bet they cancel these but ill throw in a order for some but wow 12$ for shipping ughhhh
-
I guess this is USA only
Edit: Just checked the Spanish store, it have ugly red cross in front of it -
insane deal.
Ordered 2. Gonna have to send back the 5k500.b's. I like them, but they're not $40 better per drive. They're just not. -
i hope they wont cancel my order ..:>
great find thnx -
Thanks jmhal
Just ordered (2) -
WOW. I was shopping for a 500gb and thought I'd pop on here before placing an order on the egg, thx op!!!
Shipping was a whopping #11.25 :O Crazy for something that weighs a few ounces!!! -
wow ordered mine yesterday, they arrived this morning.
-
Why the hell they can't process my credit card .....I tried so many times ...
-
what are the chances? I almost pulled the trigger on one on Newegg. Good looking out.
-
yeah the shipping is pretty steep, but I can forgive it considering the price
-
shipping is constant, it seems. so buy more to reduce it
-
hmm, I'm thinking about buying one or two right now. Looks like an excellent opportunity.
-
HP website seems to be freaking out.
when people are going through the checkout process, they're seeing other people's names, addresses and phone numbers.
HP needs to fix their sh*t. Right now. -
yeah i noticed that as well. i just did a google search for hp parts and went from there.. i think its the link that is posted here
-
that's what's keeping me from hopping on this... -
$400 for a HD3650??? Damn that is steep...
-
Does anyone know what kind of warranty these have on them?
Edit: 90 days;that's why it's so cheap. I think I'll pay $80 for a Hitachi with a warranty and get free shipping from Newegg. -
Or 3 years from the manufacturer? To my knowledge, they are WD5000BEVT's. In 24 hours I can confirm this as I will register my drive. I think the 90 day period may be the HP period for exchange.
-
I just got mine a few minutes ago, it's a Toshiba drive instead of a WD. for 67 USD, 2 day shipping, I'm not complaining. Once I'm done with my assignment for school, I'll install it and signal a thumbs up or down. 60ish USD for a 500gb HDD, can you really be picky?
-
Just opened one of my couple and its a Toshiba...back to HP I guess.
-
Toshiba? which Toshiba?
-
I believe they are the MK5055GSX model. According to Tom's Hardware, they are a bit behind the WD5000BEVT performance wise, but do use less wattage. They still carry a 3 year warranty and should be at industry par, based upon other Toshiba drive reviews. I will probably keep a couple and return or sell the others cheap. I would open the rest of the little boxes, but I do not believe HP will then take them back. So there may be WD's :/

Update: Others are reporting receiving WD drives.
HP may be using Toshiba's to fill in the gaps after running out of WDs. -
Yep, that is what I am thinking.
-
Anyone else get these shipments? I am curious since I am still on the wall about purchasing...
-
I believe ajreynol has done benchmarking on these drives in raid, if you are looking for data. I have posted a link to Tom's Hardware but I will also post a min-review once I get mine setup. I plan on running drive fitness, a full format, additional check disk, and the usual HDTune, etc. I have done quite a bit of looking on Toshiba drives today and found they are not popular, but have similar pass/fail rates. They aren't anything special, but ain't carp.
-
Anyone knows if they're shipping WDs again? How nice would the toshiba be as an external backup drive?
-
I am hoping to use this drive as an internal for my 15.4" unibody MBP. Really its just a stop gap until the high performance SSDs drop in price. I currently have a 250GB 7200RPM drive in my system, so I know that the 5400RPMs might be a slight performance hit (although I bet the platter data density of the 500GBs might negate the rotational speed difference). I was hoping to get the WD drives since they are so popular. Hopefully HP will start shipping out WDs again.

my mother received hers today. was a Western Digital.

-
yeah i want a few more but i dont want toshiba's... not sure what to do im waiting for the first 2 i ordered to see what i get..

I'm hoping mine aren't Toshibas either - I ordered 3, supposedly they won't be here till Monday, though.
-
i'm alson planning to order it
and how good is toshiba compared to WD? -
Anybody know if these are refurbs with only 90-day warranty?
-
These are OEM with no refurb tags I can find. They are warrantied 90 days through HP and 3 years through Toshiba. It looks like the Toshiba site is not updated with the new part numbers, so I have sent them an email for further verification.
-
This is still a great deal. If they show up as WD, then it is even a better deal. You are buying a $90 part for half the price. What ever brand it is, it is a good deal. Especially if you run them at raid, you will see no real life difference. 1TB gateway FX laptops will be hot.
-
Thanks for the info generald. Can anyone who received a WD care to check their serial number online with WD and see if they list warranty details?
-
-
Most definitely. If my schedule permits (and Toshiba is open) I will give them a call today. I have just put one into an external case and its SMART information is fresh and it has been chugging along with some r/w looped testing.
-
if you notice it no longer shows wd 500gb drive it simply states "500gb" without any brand names
-
nice ... if you own a business or repair shop you can use your resale tax number.. i just bought another dozen way cheaper than i can from any of my companies i get parts from... we do repairs and these will be great to keep in stock toshiba or not 95% of people dont care when they come in for them, they also credited me back the tax from my previous orders
-
it only said "500gb". -
oh i thought it did.. my mistake....i never saw it till the second day.. ive ordered a total of 16 though so we will see how many of each i get
-
wow, 16? cool.
-
well 4 first then 12 after that
